Dear University Community,
Happy Monday Dustdevils...
- Last Thursday, 948 candidates for graduation showed how we Go Beyond @ TAMIU at our Spring Commencement Exercises. It was a joyous occasion shared with family, friends, faculty, classmates, and colleagues. Relive the moments, the happiness (and the relief) in this special highlight video.
- What’s next? If you’re a TAMIU graduate...you can continue to Go Beyond in your chosen career or profession. Read the story of one of our remarkable alums who has done just that. Dr. Melanie Oxley (’21), former TAMIU standout Dustdevil Softball pitcher, is now a licensed veterinarian stationed at a small-town animal clinic in Victoria, TX. Read her story.
- Perhaps, like graduate students Pablo Rangel and Rebecca Romero, you provided a session presentation at the first-ever Alliance for Texas History academic conference. For others, like TAMIU student Brianna Andrews, she’s off to a summer internship at George Washington University.
- Faculty have plans too, like assistant professor Dr. Adam Kozaczka, researching this summer at Lewis Walpole Library at Yale University. Dr. Mohammad Davachi, TAMIU assistant professor is reflecting on the remarkable collaborative research opportunity he was able to provide students. Dean of the Library Dr. Colleen Harris will continue to blaze a poetry path to publication and more.
- Or maybe, you’re off on a Summer Study Abroad like our lucky Reading the Globe group, which is headed to Chile.
- Some are planning the next semester (or your next degree?).
- Maymester is underway and Registration for Summer, and Fall continues online on Uconnect. Details are here and on the Registration Hub. Make your move today!
- TAMIU’s online Criminal Justice Graduate Program now includes Homeland Security, Cybersecurity, and CJ Administration. Get information.
Coming Up:
- Graduates, plan to pick up your Diploma at our Diploma Party, scheduled Friday, May 30 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the ZSC Lobby.
- TAMIU offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. Offices will reopen and all classes and services resume Tuesday, May 27.
And once again to Spring 2025 Graduates... CONGRATULATIONS!
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”

GECHS Students, TAMIU Faculty Involved in Innovative Critical Cancer Therapy Research
Ot’s not often that young students have an opportunity to be part of developing an innovative drug delivery system for targeted cancer therapy. To add to that revelatory experience, these students are also high school seniors at the Hector J. García Early College High School, located on and affiliated with the TAMIU campus.
The students, Pablo Guzman and Amador Flores, GECHS seniors played key roles in the formulation, characterization, and testing of the delivery system.
