Principally Speaking
It was a great week! Our Family STEAM Night was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see both students and adults enjoying the hands-on learning activities together. Don’t forget to use your vouchers for a free visit to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and a fun tip: the Barbie® and DC Super Heroes exhibits are currently on display and close January 25, so be sure to check them out! ¡Fue una semana fantástica! Nuestra Noche Familiar de Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arte y Matemáticas (STEAM) fue un gran éxito, y fue maravilloso ver a estudiantes y adultos disfrutando juntos de las actividades de aprendizaje práctico. No olviden usar sus vales para una visita gratuita al Museo de Ciencia e Historia de Fort Worth. Also, this past week, students completed their mid-year reading screening assessments, and we are excited about the growth we’re already seeing. When we return next week, students will begin their math assessments. Please encourage your child to take their time, do their best, and show what they know. Teachers will share information about current levels and progress once all evaluations are completed. Growing Honest Hearts and Minds
This month in guidance lessons, our Social-Emotional Learning focus is honesty. I'm spending time helping students understand what honesty means, why it matters, and how being truthful helps us build trust and strong relationships with others.
What Is Honesty?
Honesty means telling the truth, being fair, and taking responsibility for our actions, even when it feels hard. I have talked with students about being frank, which means sharing the truth, but in a kind and respectful way. Honesty isn’t just about words; it also shows up in our actions and choices.
Why Is Honesty Important?
Honesty helps children:
- Build trust with parents, teachers, and friends
- Feel safe admitting mistakes and learning from them
- Develop strong character and self-confidence
- Strengthen friendships and problem-solving skills
When children know they can be honest without fear, they are more likely to ask for help and make positive choices.
How You Can Support Honesty at Home
Here are a few simple ways families can encourage honesty:
- Model honesty by admitting mistakes and talking about how you fix them
- Praise truth-telling, especially when it’s difficult
- Stay calm when your child tells the truth about a mistake
- Talk openly about why honesty matters in everyday situations
- Read books or watch shows together and discuss honest vs. dishonest choices
Let your child know that honesty is valued more than being “perfect.”
Conversation Starters for Home
Use these questions to spark meaningful discussions about honesty:
- What does being honest mean to you?
- Can you think of a time when it was hard to tell the truth? What helped you?
- How do you feel when someone is honest with you?
- Why do you think honesty is important in friendships?
- What should we do when we make a mistake?
- How can we be honest and still be kind?
These conversations help children reflect, build empathy, and practice honest communication.

Volunteer Sign Up
Many hands make light work and we love our volunteers. We depend on our parents and volunteers to help make the best learning environment that we can for our kids. We encourage you to be an approved volunteer to help make a difference at school, sponsor fine arts events, chaperone field trips and work with students. All volunteers must submit an online application (every year) and upload a copy of your unexpired government-issued photo ID to the volunteer application.
Muchas manos facilitan el trabajo y amamos a nuestros voluntarios. Dependemos de nuestros padres y voluntarios para ayudar a crear el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje posible para nuestros hijos.
