Community Room COVID Protocol

Stay Home if You Feel Sick

If you test positive or have symptoms of COVID-19, assume you are contagious.

If you have symptoms or feel sick:

  • Staying home when you are sick is important.
  • Stay home until 24 hours after the fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine (like Advil or Tylenol) and other symptoms are improving.
  • Wear a mask around others for 10 days after your symptoms start, especially if you can't stay home.
  • Avoid having contact with people at high risk for severe illness.

If you test positive but don't have symptoms:

  • It is recommended that you wear a mask around others for 5 days.
  • Avoid contact with people who are at high risk for severe illness.
  • The best time to test is 2-3 days after you were around infected person(s). The test may not work if you test too soon.

Taking care of yourself and treatment:

  • Do the things you normally do to feel better: sleep, rest, drink plenty of fluids. Most people will recover on their own. However, call your healthcare provider right away as treatment may be available depending on your age or health.
  • COVID tests are available in the Community Center (while supplies last).
  • As a courtesy to other members and staff, please notify Maybelle Center at (971) 202-7457 or email communityroom@maybellecenter.org if you test positive.

Dear Volunteers

It's a New Year, which means new focus. I love fresh starts and opportunities to evaluate and re-tool. (Yes, I'm that guy who has New Year's resolutions.) With that in mind, I want to mention a couple of things regarding the volunteer program.

First, I am so grateful to the volunteers who are so faithful to visits, events, and behind-the-scenes support. Our staff and members are the better for it. THANK YOU!

Second, we are planning to have more regular in-person volunteer gatherings in 2024. At these "snack n chats" and quarterly classes, we will share stories, introduce new staff, give updates, and connect with each another.

May 2024 be a year when our own sense of belonging increases, and each person connected with this wonderful organization is inspired to build a new bridge of connection.

Warmest Regards,

Matt S. (staff)

Chinese Garden Visit

PSU Students and Members

As many of you know, PSU students shared weekly social visits with several members last term. These students invited members to join them on their class field trip to the Lan Su Chinese Garden.

On the day of the field trip, it was a crisp, sunny fall morning. Students and members participated in a guided tour, and everyone came together to learn and enjoy this neighborhood treasure. Stanley C (Maybelle Center member) reported that acceptance and understanding were key themes for him.
