PHOENIX, ARIZONA
The 5th largest city in the country by population, Phoenix is nestled in Sun Belt region of the United States. Phoenix averages 300+ days of sunshine a year, with popular points of interest including Camelback Mountain (pictured in the back), multiple professional sports teams, and a short distance away from numerous sight-seeing cities like Sedona, Flagstaff, and Payson.
GCU STADIUM
Opened in 2016, GCU Stadium resides on the heart of campus, holding a capacity of 6,000 fans that includes stadium seating, The Platform student section, and grassy berms to lay-out and enjoy a match.
While GCU Stadium has been home to the Lopes' men's and women's teams, multiple professional teams have trained on site, including MLS squads like the Portland Timbers, Sporting KC, USL's Phoenix Rising, and was host to the MLS SuperDraft combine in 2024. The United States and Mexico national teams have also used GCU Stadium as a training pitch for friendlies in Arizona over the years.
The Lopes hold a near 70% home record since the stadium opened, winning 54 games on site since 2016 and are coming off a 9-1-2 record at home in 2025.
An all natural grass pitch, GCU Stadium also includes a spacious indoor facility that features team locker rooms and a satellite training room.
JAMIE DAVIES
Announced as head coach of the Grand Canyon men's soccer program in December 2025, Jamie Davies brings in an impressive coaching resume with extensive playing experience at the professional level.
- 2x NCAA Tournament Appearances as Head Coach (Head Coach since 2024)
- Has made the NCAA Tournament SIX times as a Head Coach and Assistant (since 2018)
- Played professionally in the USL-2 for five seasons
- TWO regular season championships, TWO conference tournament championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2024
CRAIG McCALL
Entering his second season as Jamie Davies' assistant coach and first year at GCU, McCall has been instrumental in the success on the pitch during his time in the coaching world. McCall's duties include recruiting, video analysis and individualized player development.
McCall is a former professional player who had stints in England, Scotland and the United States including competing in USL One with South Georgia Tormenta. He is an NJCAA All-American and Region 8 Conference Co-Player of the Year award winner while competing at the college ranks.
LOPES IN THE PROS
Grand Canyon has had five players drafted in the MLS SuperDraft, most recently Martin Luala, who was selected in the 1st round with the 28th overall pick to San Diego FC in the 2026 draft. Junior Diouf (top picture) had one of the best single seasons in program history in 2025, scoring 18 goals, tallying 6 assists, and finishing as a finalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Award. Diouf was named TopDrawerSoccer's Player and Freshman of the Year and is the program's first 1st Team All-American. Diouf signed with S.K. Beveren in Belgium in March 2026.
SPORTS ON CAMPUS
Home to "The Havocs", GCU is well represented on the national television market with students attending multiple games across multiple sports weekly. GCU's student section at basketball games have been dubbed The Biggest Party in College Basketball, owning one of the loudest environments in the sport. Arizona is home to prolific athletes, with baseball, tennis, golf, and soccer being a great year round activity for all levels of play.
PHOENIX RISING
Phoenix Rising FC serves as the valley's professional soccer club. Competing in the USL, Phoenix Rising provides a clear and direct pathway for soccer players of all ages and skill levels. From recreational teams for beginners to elite clubs for national competition. Multiple Lopes have progressed from the Rising Academy to GCU's squad over the years.
DOWNTOWN PHOENIX
A quick 15 minute drive from GCU's campus, downtown Phoenix serves as a central hub to multiple professional sports teams in the valley year round.
The Footprint Center
The Footprint Center is home to the Phoenix Suns (NBA) and Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) with games being played from October to May.
Chase Field
The Arizona Diamondbacks are Arizona's professional baseball team, competing just down the road from the Suns/Mercury. The D-Backs compete during the months of April-September.
State Farm Stadium
About a 20-25 minute drive from campus, State Farm Stadium is home to the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona's professional football team. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) and play from September to January.
Golf/TPC Scottsdale
Arizona is widely regarded as one of the best states in the U.S. for golf, with hundreds of courses within driving distance from GCU's campus. The Phoenix Open is held every year in February, and dubbed "The Greatest Show on Grass", sees over 500,000 spectators over a four day weekend.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
Beginning in 2026, GCU will compete in the Mountain West Conference. The six team conference resides over the western portion of the United States, including states like California, Nevada, Utah and Colorado. Five of the six teams competed in the WAC last season, with the Lopes going 3-0-3 against them a season ago en-route to the tournament title.
