DESIGN PROPOSAL
In response to the vibrant community and diverse activities along the Atlanta Beltline, the project endeavors to create an innovative space – a Culture Factory – that seamlessly integrates with the existing urban fabric in the Old Fourth Ward. Rooted in exploration and adaptation, various techniques converge to transform the site into a dynamic hub of creativity, interaction, and engagement.
The proposal envisions a multifunctional connection to the lower-level sidewalk and the Beltline, enhancing connectivity. Integrating the idea of push/pull and solid/void, the concept of stacking and superimposition is the driving factor and, the building is organized vertically in which each level is carefully designed to promote connectivity and synergy between various activities. Divided into three blocks, at sidewalk level, the gathering block serves as the welcoming heart of the building, boasting a grand entrance and an event theater. Elevated to beltline level, the visual arts block contains the LIGHTBOX gallery and art workshop. Located at the upper levels, the activity block houses the climbing space. With varying ceiling heights tailored to function, each level has a unique spatial quality.
