YKids Bootle Literary Festival
One Vision Housing
Sefton, November 23
Project information
The Bootle Children’s Literary Festival, organised by YKids, a charitable organisation devoted to inspiring youth to believe in their ability to change the world and make a positive impact, marked its fourth anniversary in 2023.
As part of the festival, young individuals throughout Sefton were welcomed to participate in a competition, channelling their creativity to craft contemporary fairy tales, reimagine fables, and invent stories featuring extraordinary creatures this year. The winning stories were then chosen to feature in a book published by YKids.
One Vision Housing were able to provide a Community Development Fund grant and partner with their printing supplier, CDP Print Management, to help the organisation publish and distribute 800 copies of their book to local schools and community organisations.
Competition winners received prizes, and in a festive gathering, the children had the opportunity to autograph copies of their book alongside a distinguished guest, acclaimed children’s author Frank Cotrell Boyce.
Outcomes
The Bootle Children's Literary Festival has made a lasting impact on the local community by fostering a love for books among children. Through engaging activities and competitions, the festival has provided a platform for young minds in Sefton to share the joy of reading and storytelling.
This celebration has enhanced children's writing skills, encouraging them to craft imaginative tales and modern fairy tales. The creative atmosphere nurtured by the festival has become a catalyst for cultivating young minds, fostering a generation of avid readers and skilled writers.
In total, this project helped to support around 7600 Merseyside children, creating £429,165 in social value according to the HACT social value calculator.
