How to survive in the V-League delivered by a foreign player in his fifth year
"When you lose confidence, you shake."
Tyce Dull Host (33, registered name Tyce) is in his fifth season in the V League. He started with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance in the 2016-2017 season and played from the 2018-2019 season, and is currently playing his second season as he was nominated by KEPCO in the 2022-2023 season.
In the fourth round match against Woori Card Woori One at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the 14th, I could see the true value of the tights.
Taking 40.5 percent of the attack possession rate, he bombarded Woori Card with 34 points and 59.18 percent of the attack success rate. Notably, he gained the upper hand by blocking foreign player Matay Kok (registered name Matay) from the start in the fifth set, and in the middle of the set, he had consecutive serve aces to secure the victory. With one shot by Tice in each match, KEPCO was able to secure its first win after three losses against Woori Card this season.
After the game, Tyce said, "Our card is in the top spot, but we never won. I thought it would be a tough game, but it wasn't the best start, but I think Woori Card was rather burdened in a close game." He continued, "Looking back at the fifth set, it was a perfect start. In the fifth set, I thought the opponent would strategically go to Mattei, so I focused on blocking dp, but I benefited from the strategy."
He showed an attack success rate of more than 50% in each round, but he was somewhat out of shape, with the attack success rate in the 40% range from the second two games in the second half of the third round to the first three games in the fourth round.
"In the beginning of the fourth round, my knee was not in a good condition. I came directly to Korea from China (the final qualifying round for the Olympics), but I think I was tight. The coach gave me enough time to take care of my knee a few weeks ago. I think I started to show different performances in jumps and movements," he said. "I gained confidence compared to the first round. If I lose confidence, my performance in the Korean league will deteriorate. If I have confidence, I will win everything. Mindset is important. If you keep strong mind, you can win everything."
Long-lived foreign player representing the V League. He cited 'convergence' as the secret to successful settlement.
"First of all, as a foreign player, to do well in the V-League, you have to quickly adapt to a different system. I think it's important to bring volleyball that you played in a foreign country. The two different cultures must mix well to survive," he said.
He is already in a position to lead the team as a senior player. Tyce stressed, "You need to get energy and take good care of your body. All our players, including the coach, should be responsible and show 100 percent on the court." 홀짝게임
