BOYS BASKETBALL district tourney game tonight!
GIRLS BASKETBALL wins 4th consecutive district championship; state tourney game this thursday @ 2pm
Varsity Girls Basketball returned to the district championship game for the 5th time on Wed night, seeking their 4th consecutive title. Standing in their way was the Eagle Mustangs, a team who needed overtime to beat Boise in their singular regular-season meeting in Dec. The Mustangs jumped out to a fast 5-0 start before the Brave settled in and got to work. At the end of the first quarter, Boise held a slight 14-13 lead. In the second, the two teams traded baskets, then Eagle hit a couple of long balls including a bank 3-pointer to close the half up 31-28. The Brave made a few defensive adjustments at half and then outpaced the Mustangs 15-7 in the third quarter thanks to a huge surge by Senior Kaity Haan's 9 points. Then, in the 4th, Boise finished at the foul line when they needed it most, going 6-6 in the final frame, and secured the 55-48 victory. The win makes Boise a 4-time district champion, the first time this has happened in 29 years. Haan led the Brave with a monster game, scoring 23 points (10-12 FG), pulling down 13 rebounds, and grabbing 4 steals and 6 blocks. Senior Avery Patricco complimented her with 16 points and tough finishes at the rim, while Senior Morgan Montgomery finished with 8 points playing tenacious defense all game long.
With the win, Boise enters the state tournament as the #2 overall seed and will play in the 2 pm game on Thurs, Feb 20 versus the #7-seeded Rigby Trojans, a team they beat in opening weekend 46-37. The full state bracket can be viewed via the link below, and all tickets must be purchased online via GoFan at the link below. Please consider supporting your Boise High Girls Basketball team as they compete in the Ford Idaho Center this week!
