Canbury School Newsletter 21st March 2025. ISSUE 352

Dear Families, Friends, Students and Staff.

As we approach the final week of this term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the positive energy and achievements we've seen across the school this week. It's been a busy one, filled with learning, celebration, and community spirit.

Firstly, I'm delighted to share we have some of our first Summer 2025 public exam results back for our BTEC courses. These are overwhelmingly positive, and it just shows that hard work and dedication truly pays off. We are incredibly proud of the student's successes.

Today's Year 7 assembly was a particular highlight in the week for me. Not only is the topic of Neurodiversity Celebration Week incredibly important, but I was also struck by the impressive public speaking and delivery skills on show by our youngest students.  From the very back of the hall, I could hear every word, a testament to their hard work and confidence. I was also especially moved by the students who shared their personal experiences, giving us all a deeper understanding of neurodiversity.

As we look ahead, please take careful note of the upcoming dates below. There are many exciting events and opportunities to look forward to, and we don't want anyone to miss out!

Have a wonderful weekend

Match Report

Canbury Stags 6 - 2 Bensham Manor

The last game of the season for the Stags saw them take on Bensham Manor in a 7 a side match at Goals, Sutton. As with previous performances, the team had to go one goal down before they switched on, however after that it was relatively plain sailing. The team managed to marshal a few skilful players Bensham had and Theo showed he’s one to watch for the future with two well taken goals.

The full-time whistle was a bittersweet moment for the team, as it signalled the last time the Year 11s will wear the green and black, and the breaking up of Canbury’s ‘Golden Generation’. Morgan, Hugo, Josh and Matt are onto pastures new next year, however their contribution to the team will live long in the memory.

End of season for our Year 11's.

Fulham Tournaments Mixed Girls & KS3 Boys

The Canbury girls football team exploded onto the tournament scene at Fulham. With 6 new teams joining the tournament, anything could happen. The number of teams increasing meant two different leagues. Canbury were put into a league facing new and old schools alike. The Canbury girls had a strong start, narrowly losing their first game. Unfortunately, the next two games they would lose and this would take a toll on Canbury. To push Canbury to even harsher conditions, Team Captain and Lead Goal Scorer Reenie took a hard tackle and was left unable to continue on in the second last game. Despite losing Reenie, the team managed to maintain a draw in their game. Some great saves from Olivia and some crucial passes from Rosie as well as great defence from Lee and interceptions from Elle showed good practice and important honed skills from football practice. Finishing their final game, Canbury ended the day walking back to the minibus or if you're Reenie and Ms McDonnell you had a private escort to the minibus via the Fulham buggy!

The KS3 boys teams came with an Armada. 11 Canbury stags stood up to the challenge of the Fulham Championship, facing teams they had faced previously. With some fresh faces on the team, nerves were high. Coming 5th overall with a couple of games won and most other games being narrowly lost, it was frustrating for the Canbury KS3 boys teams. However, there were plenty of great games, one game involving seven goals in the match with a 4-3 end score was the most nail-biting game and one to be remembered. Lead scorers Marley, Mason and Ryan with assists from Remi, Soren and Nico made for exciting play making and goals. The KS3 boys did tremendously and will give all the teams another run for their money at the next tournament.

A Big Change for a Big Cause

We're thrilled to share that Ms McDonnell has successfully donated over 12 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust. This wonderful act of kindness will help provide wigs for children experiencing hair loss. See the amazing transformation in the photos below. If anyone would like to make a donation to this worthy cause, please follow the link HERE

Egg-cellent Giving

A heartfelt thank you to our school community for showing your Canbury values by supporting our Easter egg charity collection. A special shout-out to Mr. Rush, who will be personally delivering all the collected eggs to the drop-off point this weekend. Thank you for making this Easter a little brighter for those in need!

Cracking work everyone!

Year 8 Geologists in the Making

This week, Year 8 transformed into budding geologists, getting hands-on with the fascinating world of landforms. Armed with colourful plasticine, they embarked on a creative challenge: to construct miniature cave arches, stake formations, and stump formations.

Clay Creations

The photos capture the students' concentration and creativity as they brought these geological wonders to life. From towering stake formations to delicate cave arches, each creation showcased their understanding and artistic flair. Well done, Year 8, for your impressive geological artistry!

Wellbeing Hub Puzzle Challenge

The Wellbeing Hub has been a hive of focused activity for weeks, as students tackled a particularly challenging 500-piece puzzle. The table has been a landscape of scattered colours and intricate shapes, a testament to patience and teamwork. Finally, with a triumphant cheer, the last piece slotted into place this week!

Year 10 Chemists Bubble with Discovery

Year 10 students donned their safety goggles today for an exciting chemistry practical! Their mission: to investigate which substances produce carbon dioxide. The budding scientists tested chalk, pumice, marble chips, and limestone, carefully observing the reactions that occurred. With bubbling solutions and careful observations, they explored the chemical processes that release this important gas. The practical provided a hands-on learning experience, bringing the theory of chemical reactions to life.

Chemistry in action!
