A Message from the Headteacher

Almost May and still awaiting some warmer weather! Of course, this hasn’t stopped us being busy at Birkwood. This week has provided great opportunities for our teachers to work alongside colleagues from local schools. Mr. Markham and I were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Burton Road and enjoy what they are teaching in times tables. All staff have worked on their subject area with other local professionals and picked up some tips to improve our learning offer even further. Genuine collaboration is a great way to reflect, share and enhance practice.

I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy some of the children’s work across X (Twitter.) I am very proud of their efforts and can say they are a credit to our families. The staff work incredibly hard and the fruits of these efforts are there to see.

On the sporting front, further opportunities have been enjoyed this week. Yesterday our boys travelled to Grimethorpe and suffered a very narrow 1-0 defeat. Mr. Walton has informed me there was some great effort and the spirit amongst the team was great. This afternoon, our Year 3 and 4 girls are in action in a local football tournament. I know that they too will do us proud.

We have welcomed Artist Adam Briscoe in to school this week. He has produced our piece ‘In the Heart of Our Community’ and is working with the children; I know that they will LOVE this opportunity. A local artist sharing his talents is extremely inspirational.

A little further down the line the Year 5/6 End of Year Production has a date/time change. Just one for the diaries. Please see the upcoming events calendar below.

Tickets for our Spring Disco will be going on sale from Monday 29th April. They cost £3 and includes a bag of crisps and a carton of pop. Hot dogs, buns and additional drinks/crisps will also be on sale during the event. Tickets will be available until 3.15pm on Monday 20th April. Please put the money in an envelope, with their name on the front, and pass on to their class teacher.

I wish everyone a terrific weekend and hope for some cricket weather soon!
