Objective
Students will design an avant-garde counter-monument and create a multimedia Adobe Express webpage to present their concept. This assignment aims to develop analysis skills, improve digital storytelling abilities, enhance collaboration with generative AI platforms, and foster critical thinking by applying course concepts.
Task
Research
Begin by researching existing avant-garde counter-monuments (like the "Stones of the forgotten" on Midwest U's campus [see below]) and their socio-cultural impact. Consider how these monuments challenge traditional frames and provoke thought rather than offering consolation or inspiration.
Concept Development
Use generative AI (like Copilot) to brainstorm and develop a concept for a new counter-monument. Your monument should challenge traditional frames and offer a provocative message.
Design
Design your counter-monument, considering its provocative elements and intended message. You can create sketches or digital renderings to visualize your concept.
Multimedia Webpage Creation
Create a multimedia Adobe Express webpage that includes:
- Visuals: Sketches or digital renderings (using Firefly) of your counter-monument.
- Textual Analysis: A detailed explanation of your monument's design, symbolism, and intended message.
- AI-Generated Insights: Insights and information gathered using generative AI (perplexity.ai) to support your analysis.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with your peers to refine your webpage. Provide and receive feedback to ensure your final product meets the assignment criteria.
Assessment Criteria
- Research and Concept Development (20%): Depth of research on avant-garde counter-monuments and originality of the concept developed using generative AI.
- Design and Visuals (20%): Creativity and clarity of the monument design, including sketches or digital renderings.
- Textual Analysis (30%): Quality and depth of the analysis, including the explanation of design, symbolism, and intended message.
- Multimedia Webpage (20%): Effectiveness of the Adobe Express webpage in combining visuals and text to present the concept.
- Collaboration (10%): Active participation in peer collaboration and incorporation of feedback.
