Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year to you and your families. I do hope you were able to enjoy the Christmas break together and you enjoyed the celebrations with your families, helping you recharge for the new year. The children have come back from the 2 week break in a positive and cooperative manner and have settled quickly into their school routines. For many of our learners this is significant challenge and they have coped well; which bodes well for the new term. The staff have certainly come back energised and are ready for the rigours of the spring term.
Thank you to all parents for having your child ready for School each day and for reinforcing our expectations and standards, which certainly helps us to support each child in School. I am confident that with your ongoing support that we can continue to make SJV one of the very best SEND schools in Greater Manchester. Thank you for your ongoing support.
My assemblies this week have been focused on the importance of the Epiphany, which was on January 6th. The children have been given an understanding of the importance of the visit of the 3 Magi in celebrating the birth of Jesus and why in many cultures the Epiphany is as important as Christmas day in Catholic homes. We have asked them to make new year resolutions on how, following the messages from the Epiphany story, we can all show God’s love with others we meet in school and at home. Resolutions that should make us all better people.
Demolition of the Gym and Rainbow buildings has begun this week and it is amazing to see how quickly the construction teams have worked in starting to clear the back area of school. Our excitement at the start of works is tinged with some sadness for many staff and pupils, who all have fond memories of working in the Gym and Rainbow buildings. At the end of January, the building of the new school will begin and we will have even more limited car park space in school for a long period of time. We will be asking transport teams to drop off and collect pupils from the front of school (which will be designated ‘no parking’) and developing new routines with pupils to ensure transitions into and out of school are safe for everyone. We will keep you informed of these developments.
If you have any queries or concerns please contact the Admin team, who will direct you to the right person, who will be able to return your call.
Very best wishes for the weekend.

Poetry Corner
A happiest of New Years from Poetry Corner! This week at SJV the whole of Key Stage 3 have started to look at the crossovers between poetry and art, learning about key poetic terminology and techniques to help bring a greater writing craft to the amazing creativity of our pupils. Also, our poet in residence, Oliver Lomax, attended training at The Poetry Society in London on Monday, exploring different performance poetry and recital methods to help ready our students for entry in this year's Poetry By Heart competition, exciting times ahead. Have a poetic weekend everyone.
