Research Spotlight: Dr. Barbara Kaplan

At Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, research goes far beyond what happens in the clinic. In laboratories across campus, faculty tackle some of the most complex questions in medicine, questions that impact both animals and people. One of those researchers is Dr. Barbara Kaplan, professor of immunotoxicology, whose work focuses on how drugs and chemicals affect the immune system.

Dean's Message

Dear Friends, What a year we have had at the College of Veterinary Medicine. At our recent Christmas lunch, which was supported by a generous gift from Nutramax Laboratories, I was reminded of the strength of our community. Seeing rows of faculty and staff sharing laughter and fellowship underscored an important truth: every individual here plays a vital role in our success. In 2025, we achieved milestones that reflect both our vision and our values. The establishment of the Nancy Fair Link Laminitis Research Center marks a significant advancement in equine health. Our Center for Rural Veterinary Practice continues to deepen its impact, preparing graduates to serve communities where veterinary care is most needed. And through rigorous training and mentorship, we remain confident that we are producing the most well-prepared veterinary professionals in the world. Our calling, to care for those who cannot care for themselves, is both humbling and profound. Veterinary medicine is inherently collaborative, and I am proud that our college exemplifies this spirit. Together, we have built an environment where innovation thrives, and compassion leads the way. As we look ahead to 2026, the opportunities before us are exciting. With your continued dedication and support, I am confident we will continue to exceed expectations. Thank you for all you do to make this college a beacon of excellence. From all of us at the CVM, Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones. Here’s to a new year filled with progress, purpose, and shared success. All the best, Nicholas Frank, Dean
