Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 20th June 2025

Year 5 Bempton Trip

Year 5 had wonderful visits to the RSPB reserve at Bempton as part of their ongoing topic work of 'Coasts' and 'That's Life'. The children experienced first-hand the cycles of birds and coastal animals and also investigated coastal features.

Rounders Success!

Well done to our amazing Year 4 rounders team who won the tournament at Delta! We are so Parkside Proud of you all!

Ofsted Visit

A team of inspectors visited the school on 10th & 11th June. We cannot share any details at this time but we hope the full report will be published before the summer holidays.

New East Roof

We have had confirmation that the roof is going to be replaced in East. Scaffolding will be going up on Tuesday 1st July. The work is being project managed by East Riding Council and JP are the contractors. This is at least a 10 week project so will be ongoing over the summer. Harris fencing is being put up on the perimeter of the entire East Building and the area around the back of the East hall will be fenced off. This means that from 1st July parents/carers of Reception children will need to go past the Year 2 and Year 1 classrooms to access Reception. We apologise for any inconvenience while this essential work is completed.

Tombola Prizes

Just a reminder that our Community Champion pupils would be very grateful for any donations of prizes for their tombola at the Summer Fair. If you have any items you would be willing to donate, please bring to the school office. Thank you for your support.

Summer Fair

Just a reminder about that The Friends of Parkside PTA are putting on the Summer Fair on Tuesday 8th July, from 3.30-5.30pm.

HAF Summer Programme

This summer holidays, there is a host of free, fun, creative activities for children and young people receiving benefits related free school meals. The sessions will take place across the East Riding and include musical themed dance workshops, crafts, sports camp as well as outdoor adventure sessions and animal experiences.

Sessions are available to book now through Plinth, the centralised booking system at https://dub.sh/lEP5tXl or by using the QR code below. Over the next 2 weeks more programmes will be placed on the website from 40 HAF providers, so please keep checking for updates. These new sessions will appear at the top of the webpage (so no scrolling needed!).

New to Holiday Activities and Food in 2025 include junior lifeguard training, water polo, kayaking, paddleboarding, graffiti workshops and alpaca walking. The programme also welcomes back music activities, trampolining, parkour and sessions at new aerial hi-ropes adventure, The Edge in Bridlington amongst others.

The activities are all part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which is funded by the Department for Education, and is primarily aimed at those aged between five and sixteen, and who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. A limited number of places are also available to children and young people who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP), regardless of their free school meals status.

The majority of sessions are four hours long and each child and young person can book up to sixteen sessions for free in the summer holidays, subject to availability. Places are booked on a first come, first served basis.

If parents are experiencing any problems booking activities or registering on the site, they are advised to use the live chat function on the Plinth website or contact the HAF team at haf@eastriding.gov.uk

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance data for the last two weeks. The overall school attendance was still very low in the first week back at 92.33% but the increase to 93.38% in the second week is encouraging. Let's keep this upward momentum going!

Please remember that holidays during term time cannot be authorised. Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

Absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).

Parent Guides

The remarkable growth of generative AI tools like ChatGPT has opened up exciting new opportunities for young learners. Used wisely, AI can be a powerful ally in boosting creativity, learning and problem-solving skills. However, without proper guidance, young people may stumble into challenges including inaccurate information, data security risks, and a growing reliance on AI over their own critical thinking.

This free guide explores the risks and rewards of children using generative AI tools, highlighting dangers such as misinformation, privacy breaches, and reduced critical thinking, while offering essential tips for safe, positive use. Click here to view as a pdf.
