A Daily Prayer

Dear God , thank You for blessing me with another day to be Your worker. It is my greatest honor to be Your follower, and I dedicate all the work I do to You. Please continue watching over me as I go about my day. Grant me the patience and resilience I need to overcome any challenges at work. I pray for a good day at work with my team and colleagues. With this blessing prayer, I humbly ask for You to bless my work, so that I am able to create wondrous things with You in mind. May I remember to always look to You when I encounter difficulties that may stump me, for when I lean on You, I know I can conquer anything. This I ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.

5th Sunday Lancaster District Worship

hello september #9 of 12

Pastor Fite will be preaching Saturday evening/night

"Camp meetings are basically these open-air meetings that happen once a year, typically in rural areas," Floyd said. "They started a long time ago, over 150 some years ago. They usually came when they didn't have to worry about crops, they had what you would say rest period or vacation time. They would fill this scene of spiritual renewal, so when people come to camp meeting, they are passed down generations to generations." Dr. Minuette Floyd, Associate Professor of Art Education, University of South Carolina, Author of "This Far by Faith"

It's Penny Brigade Time

A Prayer for our Grieving Families and Friends

We come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear members, friends, and loved ones who are walking through the valley of grief. Lord, You are close to the brokenhearted, and You save those who are crushed in spirit. Be near to them now. Wrap them in Your comfort, and hold them in Your loving arms.

In their sorrow, grant them peace. In their questions, give them assurance. In their emptiness, fill them with Your presence. Help them to remember that even in the darkness, Your light still shines—that You are the God who sees, who hears, and who heals.

We ask, O God, that You would bring strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Send people into their lives to walk alongside them, to listen, to pray, and to simply be present. Let them feel the love of this church family and the compassion of Christ through us.

Amen

A Prayer for Healing and Recovery

We come to You today lifting up our dear members and friends who are facing illness and walking the road of recovery. You are our Healer, our Refuge, and our Strength in times of weakness.

Lord, stretch out Your healing hand. Restore bodies that are weary, renew strength that has been lost, and bring comfort to those in pain. Guide the hands of doctors, nurses, and all who care for them. Bless the medicines, therapies, and treatments, and let them be tools of Your mercy and grace.

For those in hospital rooms, at home, or in rehabilitation, may Your presence be felt in every breath, every step, every moment. Calm anxious hearts and give them peace that passes all understanding. Surround their families and caregivers with endurance, compassion, and hope.

We pray for steady healing, for restful nights, and for moments of joy even in the midst of difficulty. Let Your church be a source of encouragement, prayer, and practical support, as we carry one another’s burdens in love.

Lord, we believe that You are still the God who heals. We entrust our brothers and sisters into Your faithful care, confident that You are at work even now.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen

Lakeita Williams on Saturday outside the house she lived in during Hurricane Katrina. Her mother, who still lives there, stayed in a trailer while the home was being renovated. Brandon Holland for NBC News

By Curtis Bunn (nbcnews.com)

It was late August 2005 in a New Orleans ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. A pregnant Lakeita Williams, her partner, Travis Randolph, and their 9-month-old baby had spent the last two days stranded in the sweltering attic of her parents’ home. The flooding receded enough to let them leave the house, but waist-high flood waters forced them to spend a third night outside, on a mattress they had found floating nearby.

The young family were the only people on the block who elected to ride out the storm, believing the stark warnings were being exaggerated. But Hurricane Katrina surpassed all expectations. The family’s home and thousands others were destroyed. Without food or diapers for the baby, they were all increasingly starving, dehydrated and scared.

“We felt hopeless,” Williams said.

Until, as if she had called an Uber, a man appeared in a canoe.

“I don’t know where he came from. He was Caucasian. He looked elderly and frail,” Williams recalled. “He said, ‘Come on. Get in.’”

He took them in his canoe along several blocks until they reached dry land, where they joined others and began an odyssey to Baton Rouge that would result in their survival.

Two decades later, as much as Williams remembers the terrifying rage of Katrina, she and others also indelibly recall the numerous acts of humanity by strangers that pulled them to the other side of one of the worst American catastrophes.

“I had never seen the man in the canoe before, but I can still see his face,” said Williams, now 40 and back in New Orleans. “He basically saved our lives. We could see helicopters hovering, but no one ever came. But this man did. It’s like he was sent for us. He didn’t want anything other than to help us.”

She never learned his name or saw him again.

“A lot was going on,” Williams added, “but I can say that people were really there for each other.”

Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, resulting in at least 1,800 deaths and $108 billion in damages. In the wake of the disaster, desperation led to looting and violent crimes, especially in the Superdome, the city’s multipurpose stadium and makeshift shelter. But in some of the most intense and dramatic moments following Aug. 29, 2005, it was altruism that rescued people who were stranded, hurt and, in some cases, facing death.

Note: Back in the day, Lancaster High was the largest school in the County and Indian Land was the smallest. Now, IL is the largest and Lancaster High is second. Lancaster High is the defending State Champ in Boys' Basketball. But, right now, we are talking football!
