Fall Scholastic Book Fair

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Fall Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our Adams PTO, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from October 19 to October 26 in the school’s library. Your student will have a chance to shop with their class during a designated time during this week. Additionally, families may shop on Thursday, October 26, from 1 pm to 8 pm while the school is open for Parent Teacher Conferences. Stop by when you are at the school to check out our great selection of books for your family and teacher wish list books - all purchases help to support our school!

Our Book Fair offers eWallet, a safe and secure alternative to cash. Simply create a free account to add funds and/or invite family and friends to contribute so your child can select their own books. Any unused funds can be spent at The Scholastic Store Online or to fund a future eWallet. If you had remaining funds from your past eWallet, you should receive an email from Scholastic as well as be able to see the leftover money when you log in and apply the funds to a Fall eWallet.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/adamselementary

We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. Happy reading!

5th Grade Field Trip

Fifth graders went to Bay City State Park on Tuesday. They extended their learning of Ecosystems and Energy and examined macro-organisms, used inquiry to determine Michigan animal species with animal skulls, and took a guided hike through the woods, marsh and beach.

2023-24: Robotics - Join the Adams Team!

We are seeking interested 2nd and 3rd grade families of Adams Elementary that would like to participate in our Explore Robotics Program. You can learn more about FLL at their website: https://www.firstlegoleague.org/season. The Explore is for grades 2-3 and takes place in the Spring, and the Challenge is for grades 4-5 and takes place in the Fall.

Is your child interested? If so, please fill out the form below and let us know. We will also need parent mentors, so if you are interested in filling that role, please note that on the form.

PYP Learner Profile Attribute Students of The Month

Each month, staff members at Adams Elementary will highlight students who “live the learner profile.” The learner profile consists of ten attributes that we want to cultivate in our students and encourage them to encompass every day. Students who demonstrate the selected learner profile attribute will be nominated for a monthly award.

During the month of October we are highlighting students who demonstrate the learner profile attribute of open-mindedness. An open-minded student is one who appreciates his or her own culture and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others.

This month the following students are being recognized for demonstrating the Learner Profile Open-Minded:

  • Munther Alshaif
  • Raistlyn Pellett
  • Connor Paten
  • Madeline Richard
  • Felicity Richardson
  • Zaha Khan

Great Things are happening at Adams!

Great things are happening at Adams! Staff and students are continuing to work on their self-awareness skills as they settle into the school year and face new challenges. We are becoming more cognizant of our strengths and areas of struggle as well as the emotions that show up with those experiences. By practicing self-awareness, we are able to be proactive and care for our emotions before they become hard to manage. Ways to do this at school and at home include taking a break from the activity causing the emotion, asking for help, or using our breath to refocus and calm our mind and body. The following students have shown particularly strong self-awareness this October:

  • KDG: Jackson Walton
  • 1st: Corbin McElgunn
  • 2nd: Gunner Keefer
  • 3rd: Clara Kimball
  • 4th: Alivia Bullard
  • 5th: Wyatt Wood
Students in Mrs. Florey's class have taken time to notice and share what they like most about themselves as they learn to be self-aware!

Lost and Found

Students should check the lost and found periodically. We have accumulated many misplaced items such as jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, and other personal belongings. Please label your child's belongings to help us quickly return them to their owners. We will donate unclaimed items at the end of each semester.

Community Programs

We want to be sure that our families are aware of the community programs available to those needing assistance. At this time, the following programs are available to Adams students/families:

The Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Backpack Buddies Program is available again this school year. Contact the office at 923-6037 if you would like to receive the food backpack.

Reporting Absences Through ParentVUE

Parents/Guardians can report student(s) absent via ParentVUE. This feature appears as a blue button titled "Report Absences" on the app's main page or website.

  • Parents/guardians can report absences for a single day or multiple days.
  • Report each student individually. Do not enter additional students in the notes section.
  • For each absence reported, parents/guardians must provide a detailed note explaining the reason. If you report your student as sick, please list the symptoms your student is experiencing. The note will help school attendance staff select the correct attendance code.
  • If you have a legal or medical document, please upload it with the absence, or provide it to the school attendance staff upon your student's return. Parents/guardians can still call to report an absence at 989-923-6037.
