State Emergency Operations Plan Activated

In response to a major winter storm hitting North Dakota, Gov. Burgum's news release on Oct. 11 announced that the State Emergency Operations Plan was activated. This release discussed the "whole-of-government approach" which includes the collaboration of state agencies to include the N.D. Department of Emergency Services (NDDES), the N.D. National Guard (NDNG) and the N.D. Civil Air Patrol (NDCAP). Local media interested in how our agencies prepare for and respond to weather emergencies, interviewed several key personnel to include the adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Al Dohrmann; Col. Tad Schauer, directory of military support for the NDNG; CAP Capt. Larry Regorrah, director of emergency support for NDCAP; and Capt. Rob Pelescak, operations officer for NDNG's military support. These three agencies are administered under the direction of the Office of the N.D. Adjutant General and continually plan for emergency support contingencies as called for in this order.

Capt. Rob Pelescak, operations officer for NDNG's military support, talks with reporter John Salling of KFYR-TV at the N.D. National Guard's Joint Operations Center (JOC) at Fraine Barracks in Bismarck. Salling was reporting on the N.D. Guard's preparation for emergency response on Oct. 11.

Annual Father-Daughter Dance

The North Dakota National Guard Child and Youth Program held its 4th Annual Father-Daughter Ball at the Heritage Museum in Bismarck on Sept. 28. About 125 people participated in this even intended for military daughters and their father-figures. This event highlights the special father-daughter relationship, allowing daughters to experience undivided attention from their paternal parent, and provides them time together away from life's daily distractors and stressors. Events like this also help create family resiliency and promote healthy relationships. Local businesses and organizations donated the refreshments and decorations. The fathers and daughters enjoyed many activities to include a funny photo booth, bracelet-making table, and lots of special moments on the dance floor. Participants were invited to pose for formal prom-like portraits to help them remember the evening.
