Alien
The exhibition ALIEN shows the results of a collaboration between artists Tommy Smits and Shani Leseman with artist from Zinderin Kunst: Mo Ameziane, Ellen Brinkman, Dyon Faber, Laurens Gabriël, Dustin Hofman, Liliane Jansen, Lonneke Klinkenberg, Bassam Mosa, Cyril Rosebel, and Alex van Waveren.
They have been making ceramic works while thinking and talking about aliens and outer space. They collaboratively made a series of ceramic alien heads. The Alien can be seen as the ultimate Other: one who exists outside of their subjective bubble and is perceived as different from oneself or one’s own group. To encounter an Other makes you question your own patterns, behaviors, and what you think is normal. They went from being alienated to being acquainted with each other’s process and ideas, about aliens but also about art and making it. The exhibition space will function as a UFO where their explorations on this big mystery are to be seen.

We Need New Superstars
with The One Minutes, in a installation of Hugo Béhérégaray
A selection of 20 videos, each exactly 1 minute long and showcasing a wide range of superstars, is continuously shown in our mini cinema. This series embraces a diverse array of identities, bodies, and minds, advocating for the recognition of new superstars, including neurodiverse superstars, disabled superstars, plus-size superstars, sex worker superstars, homeless superstars, and animal superstars. The presentation of One Minutes in SEXYLAND World takes place in a unique installation by French-Dutch visual artist Hugo Béhérégaray. Hugo creates portable, performative, and interactive cardboard sculptures, which in this case serve as a movie screen and comfortable seating. This creative and inviting environment offers a meeting point where visitors can experience the remarkable videos.
Bruin Parry, one of the most outspoken faces of No Limits! Art Castle, doesn’t want to become an artist but a superstar, because there are already enough artists with Down syndrome, but no famous superstars with a similar condition. He, for example, wants to become the new Michael Jackson under the name Bruin Jackson.
This touches on a bigger issue: while there is much talk about inclusion and diversity, the pool of people from which pop superstars are drawn seems quite small and homogeneous. We need new superstars! Superstars in wheelchairs, superstars from countries that people barely know, superstars who are trans, and a superstar band consisting of one big polyamorous love family. So that superstars can become role models who teach us something, whom the most marginalized groups can identify with, and not just examples of unattainable beauty that make everyone insecure. That’s why No Limits! Art Castle and The One Minutes held an open call.
A selection of these videos is on display in this exhibition. Additionally, the films will be included in The One Minutes archive and there will be screenings organized at other venues such as cinema De Uitkijk, and other cultural institutions that have a subscription to The One Minutes.

About No Limits! Art Castle
No Limits! Art Castle is the first art space in the Netherlands that stands for an art world without borders. No boundaries between so-called ‘outsider’ artists and the rest of the art world, not between art and design, not between day and night culture or fantasy and reality. Here you can view and buy art. And besides, it is a castle.
The area is part of Sexyland World, located at the river IJ in Amsterdam Noord. You can walk in from Wednesday to Sunday. No Limits! No Limits! Art Castle is open until midnight on weekends. There is always a host who can tell you more about the background of the art and the makers.
