using our imagination

We had a great time at Forest School this week and were surprised to discover that the “fairies” had made a return to the forest. The children were immediately hooked and set off on a hunt to see how many fairy villages they could spot hidden around the area.

The children really used their imagination during the session and became completely absorbed in what they were doing, it was such a lovely magical experience for them.

This week in history we explored how schools have changed over time. We looked at a timeline and photos of schools from the 1900s, 1960s, 1980s and today, and talked about what was different and what has stayed the same. We also thought about how we might find out more about the past and decided that speaking to someone about what school was like when they were younger would be a great way to learn. The children then worked in pairs to write their own questions, thinking carefully about what they would like to ask and what might help them understand what life in school was like in the past.

The children showed great imagination and came up with some thoughtful questions. They really enjoyed thinking about what they would like to know then recorded down what they found out.

The children spent time looking closely at pictures of schools from the past to present, noting similarities and differences. They thought carefully about what it might have been like to go to school in different decades and discussed whether they would have preferred school in the past or today, their opinions were mixed.
