Women’s Soccer Upsets #17 Hamilton with Last Minute Goal
Following a scoreless tie against Middlebury Saturday, the Mules took on a nationally ranked Hamilton squad Sunday, with fireworks in store down the stretch. The teams went into the half knotted 1-1 (Colby goal from Samantha DeWitt), and both teams turned up the intensity going into the second.
At the 57th minute mark Abigail Jarvi (first collegiate goal) pulled the Mules ahead with a breakaway goal to put Colby up 2-1, following a through pass from Mia Cromwell. The Continentals eventually answered with a goal of their own, going into the last 20 minutes of the game with a 2-2 tie.
The Mules continued to pepper the net totaling 20 shots in the match as Colby received a break from a Hamilton handball in the final minute. Off the freekick, Madison Genser (headline photo) lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper into the top left corner for an electrifying 3-2 Mules victory. MK Marshall finished with five saves in the match.
Colby improves their overall record to 3-5-2, owning a win and two ties in their last three NESCAC matchups. The Mules will face cross-town rival Thomas College on Wednesday.
Football Takes Down Previously Unbeaten Wesleyan in Overtime
With Wesleyan running one of the best offenses in the conference, and touting a 12-game win streak against Colby, the Mules and Cardinals clashed Saturday in a contest that would take more than the initial 60 minutes.
Rain shifted from light to steady all afternoon as the Mules took a 10-6 halftime lead off a Jack Sawyer touchdown and a Christos Tzoumakas 42-yard field goal. Wesleyan took the lead in the third quarter only to have Tzoumakas tie it 13-13 in the fourth with his second field goal of the day.
The Cardinals had a chance to win the contest with a field goal attempt as the clock ran out, but a well-timed time out by Colby induced complications on the snap and hold, leading to Will Nipon getting a piece of the 37-yard attempt by the Cardinal kicker.
On the first play in overtime Thomas Keeling connected with Sawyer again, this time for a 25-yard score. Wesleyan advanced all the way to Colby's seven yard line before their final attempt fell incomplete on fourth and goal, sending the Mules into an uproar.
Colby is now 2-2 and will travel to Amherst (2-2) this coming weekend. After dropping 22 straight contests to Amherst, Colby has won each of the last two matchups.

Hosting three matches this week in the Margaret M. Crook Center, the Mules took down all three opponents starting with the Jumbos Friday night.
In the five set thriller, the two teams went back and fourth trading sets as Tufts took sets one and three (25-22, 25-23) and Colby took sets two and four (29-27, 25-19), all resulting in close scores. It all came down to the final set where the Mules dominated 15-4 to beat the Jumbos for the first time since 2005. First-year Brady Moseley shined, notching a season high 20 kills followed by Emma Davis with 10. Gabby Grujic tallied 26 assists to go along with 14 digs (both season highs), while Allison Rodriguez contributed 17 assists and 17 digs.
The following day the Mules swept USM 3-0 taking all three sets with ease (25-15, 25-8, 25-13). Marjorie Johnson knotted 10 kills followed closely by Moseley with eight, while Grujic added 12 assists. Colby’s firepower continued into the evening, defeating Smith 3-1 with close scores throughout the match. Moseley added 13 more kills on the day while Sydney Bopp gathered a career-high tally of eight blocks.
The Mules are now 11-5 overall, 4-2 in conference play (good for third place). Colby will host second-seeded Middlebury Friday and fifth-seeded Hamilton Saturday for important NESCAC matchups while looking to continue their four game win streak.

Men’s Soccer Defeats Husson, Battles Close with Hamilton and #7 Middlebury
Early in the week the Mules headed to Bangor to take on the Husson Eagles, coming away with a 3-0 victory and maintaining a perfect record in non-conference matches. With the score knotted at 0-0 to open the second half, Luke Pentikis found an opening to put the Mules on the board just 20 seconds into the second frame (first collegiate goal), assisted by Marios Simoes. Colin Leon added onto the Colby lead in the 64th minute (first collegiate goal) while Simoes got one past the Eagles goalkeeper in the 77th minute, resulting in a three goal cushion for the Mules.

Crew Begins Fall Season at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta
The Colby Crew team headed to Worcester, Mass. Saturday facing some of the top programs in New England.
The Men had two crews racing in the event, notching 9th and 20th respectively out of 25 total crews. It was a tight and competitive field of racing with only 20 seconds separating places four through 13 over the 2.5 mile course. Colby was able to beat out two Division 1 crews from Marist College.
On the Women’s side, Colby’s V8 boat placed 11th out of 19 crews. The Mules finished ahead of the ‘B’ crew from Williams College, a team that competed at the NCAA Rowing Championship last spring.
"Our goal for the first race of the year is to learn about ourselves and how we handle the competitive environment of racing so that we can get better each day in practice as we prepare for the upcoming races. We certainly accomplished that with a lot of good lessons learned out on the water. Each crew had parts of their race that we were pleased with and that were well-executed, as well as parts that we need to improve on. We're proud of the effort that the whole team has been putting in so far this fall and we're excited to keep fitter, stronger and faster in the weeks ahead." - Head Coach Stew Stokes
Colby Crew will be back in action on October 21st for the Head of Charles Regatta.
