Farm-City Week

Each year National Farm City Week is proclaimed by the President as being the week leading up to and including Thanksgiving Day. This year Franklin County celebrated Farm City Week on October 6th, with a luncheon at Mitchell Farms, in Bunn. Awards were presented for Cooperative Extension “Volunteers of the Year” in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H and Youth Development. Cooperative Extension also recognized recipients for the “Friends of Extension Award.” Learn more

2024 Governor's Volunteer Service Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. The awards program, created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, the award has been bestowed on thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community. Learn more

Family & Consumer Science

Farm to School Month was recognized during October, a time to celebrate the connection between children and local food. FCS observed NC Crunch Day 2023 by visiting several Franklin County elementary schools doing nutritious education activities. 2023 State Fair

Senator James D. Speed Achievement Scholarship

The Senator James D. Speed Achievement Scholarship award was presented to two deserving Junior Beef Exhibitors in the Jr. Market Steer and/or Jr. Beef Heifer competition at the North Carolina State Fair.
