As ever, it has been a very busy week in school. Lots of things have been happening and I have seen some beautiful work. It has been a wonderful start to the year from the children and great to see how they have settled into their new classes whilst producing work of which we are all very proud.
Importantly, we hosted an Internet Safety Workshop for Years 5 and 6 delivered by South Yorkshire Police. They shared some fantastic messages around appropriate use of the internet/ smart phones & certain apps - it is always useful to hear crucial lessons from a different voice. Thank you to South Yorkshire Police for helping us to try to keep our children safe.
Please remember to park safely and considerately around Birkwood. Thank you to everyone who has shown consideration to our requests.
We hosted families to share our teaching of phonics in Reception. Thank you so much to Miss Betts and the team; we have had great success in our early reading offer thanks to the hard work of the children, our staff team and some wonderful support from home.
This afternoon children from years 5 and 6 will be competing in the local Cross-Country Championship held at Milefield. I wish them all the best!
I wanted to share some information with you from Barnsley Tennis Club. There are links below to have a look at what they can offer. Tennis is a great sport and this really is a fantastic local facility – give it a go!
Look out early next week for information around our Macmillan coffee morning - simply a wonderful cause. I know that so many people will have been touched by their work and thanks to our staff team, we will support them.
Our after-school partner ‘Groots’ have plans for half term, please check the link if you may be interested.
Have a great weekend – you may need snorkels and flippers tomorrow! As ever, thank you for your kindness and support.
