Canbury School Newsletter 14th November 2025. ISSUE 382

Head's Welcome

What an exceptionally busy and rewarding week it has been here at Canbury School. The week began on a poignant note, following on from Mrs Eynon’s powerful assembly last week. We were extremely proud to join the nation in marking Armistice Day. The whole school gathered to tune into the National Literacy Trust's Online Assembly, featuring Prince William and members of the Armed Forces, just before our two-minute silence and ending on a poem from one of our Head students, Evan. The respect and solemnity shown by every one of our students during this important occasion was truly commendable and an absolute credit to our school. Our students have also been out representing us with pride on the sports field this week, competing in a number of exciting football matches. These events are fantastic for developing teamwork and resilience, and we're thrilled to be expanding our matches programme in the near future. Please watch this space for more news coming soon! A very big thank you to all students and staff who lined up so patiently for our 2025 school photos. These annual photos are a wonderful keepsake and a great Christmas present for members of the family. Please look out for the card that your child will have brought home, which contains the QR code you will need to view and order your child's pictures. A major highlight this week has been giving our KS4 and KS5 students the opportunity to visit two significant careers fairs. We attended both a valuable local event and the impressive national event at the Excel. It is so important for our older students to gain insight into the world that awaits them, and I know they found these visits incredibly useful in seeing the vast array of pathways and options available to them post-Canbury. As always, thank you for your continued support and have a restful weekend. Mrs Rich Head

What we've been up to

Football

It was the first football of the season for The Stags on Monday for the autumn round of the Surrey Inclusive League held at Fulham FC's training ground. Both the A and the B equipped themselves well against stronger opposition than usual, and wet conditions. The As came second and were unbeaten on the day, with Theo grabbing a handful goals from left wing. The Bs played some great football and ground out some impressive victories, with Soren shoring the team up in goal and Remi as an all-action midfielder. Well done all who represented the school.

Remembrance Poems by Year 7

Perhaps Lots of soldiers Or Perhaps a lot of dead bodies Poppies to remember all the blood sweat and tears You will remember forever and ever. By Ben

Recognise those men, Who came to save the day, They dropped their pen, And didn’t stay. All those families, Sad because of them, The enemy who was fancily, Treating soldiers like they weren't a gem. It’s not right, That people don't realise, Our saviours fight, And that they died for us. By Daisy

Peace Peas in a pod we once were. Everywhere we went now gone. And now he is somewhere. Can you hear him close at his grave? Ending a kiss goodbye because he believes I’m brave. By Logan

Think of the soldiers who made a sacrifice, So you don't have to live in a Nazi paradise. Think how they fought so hard Just to get disgrace and discard *not now but years ago For nights and days they fought those Germans By Nina

People wait until no more. Once they finished their war. People have no volume and remember silence Poppies coat the whole country, just like a red handkerchief You shall remember, I shall remember, we all shall remember. By Pavel

Year 10 Photographers Capture Stunning Compositions in Richmond Park

The Year 10 Photography students recently embarked on a productive and exciting field trip to Richmond Park, aiming to translate their classroom knowledge into stunning, real-world images. It was a huge success, providing students with invaluable practical experience. The Challenge: Composition in Practice Richmond Park proved to be a challenging yet rewarding outdoor classroom. Students were tasked with consciously applying core compositional rules to the park’s diverse landscapes and wildlife. The goal was to master techniques by actively seeking out perfect scenarios for: - Rule of Thirds: Finding the ideal spots on the horizon or positioning subjects to draw the viewer's eye. - Leading Lines: Utilizing paths, fences, and shadows to create dynamic visual flow in their images. - Framing: Harnessing the park's natural architecture, like overhanging branches, to frame their subjects effectively. - Symmetry & Scale: Using the vastness of the park to experiment with scale and negative space. The quality of the work produced on the day was excellent. These compelling images will now form a significant part of the students' assessment portfolio, demonstrating their growing mastery of advanced photographic principles.

Homework Support notice

A reminder that we are now running our homework support clinic that will take place in the geography room on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes (from 1-1.30). These sessions are there to support students who have not been able to complete their homework set by teachers by the deadline set. All students will be given the chance to bring this homework in by the next lesson for that subject but if they are still unable to do this then they will be asked to go to the closest homework support clinic (either Monday or Thursday) so that they can be helped to finish this. Homework support will always have at least one teacher in there monitoring and helping students and students only need to stay for as long as it takes to get the work finished. Students can also choose to go to support their own organisation if they think this will help them manage deadlines. Should you have any questions about this please do contact either Mrs Eynon (KS3) or Mr McGregor (KS4).
