ENJOY THE EASTER BREAK

It may have been a short half term, but we have packed a lot into these last five weeks! Well done to all of the children for their hard work.

We hope you all have a fun and safe Easter break; fingers crossed for better weather so we can all get outside and enjoy some Spring sunshine! We will see all of the children back on Monday 8th April.

DANCE STARS

A huge well done to our Year 4 dancers who came in first place at the inter-school competition. We are so proud of them! All of their hard work and practice in rehearsals paid off; they performed brilliantly at the event. Thank you to Miss Hood, Mrs Coleman and Miss Oldridge for coaching the children and helping them prepare.

ABSOLUTELY RUNDERFUL

An intrepid team of cross country runners took part in the East Riding (West) athletics finals after qualifying back in September. All of the children gave their absolute best and we are really proud of all of them. We are particularly excited to let you know about a truly phenomenal performance from Skye in Year 4 who came first! Absolutely amazing, well done Skye!

Superstar Skye!
Well done Team Parkside!

THANK YOU!

A representative from Help the Homelezz in Goole has been into school today to collect the biscuits that have been donated, as well as some late Harvest donations. She was absolutely amazed by the amount of kind and generous donations, and said that they would be put to good use and much appreciated by those in the need in the community. Our Community Champions are pictured below handing over the items collected.

As well as helping the homeless, the group also provide help, support and food parcels to families in need, so please know that anyone can reach out to them via their Facebook page or website.

ONLINE SAFETY SUPPORT - REMINDER

The online world is an essential part of our daily lives and learning how to use technology safely is an essential skill for children and adults. Often adults feel like young people know more about these platforms than they do; learning how to act safely when using the internet is an incredibly important part of safeguarding and your role as a parent/carer can make a significant difference.

We would like to remind you that our school is a member of the National College, which all parents are invited to sign up to via this link. To sign up simply complete your details. Once you’re set up, you’ll be able to choose ‘Parent/Carer’ as your user type and get instant access to access to courses, explainer videos and online safety guides to support your awareness of the online world. We have created a watchlist for parents, with videos and courses that we think will be most helpful.

It is important to remember that 'online safety' is a very wide issue - it is not just about protecting children from strangers and predators, but also about protecting their health and wellbeing generally. We should not treat online life as a separate issue - for children it is just 'life'. Therefore we need to guide and support them as we do in all aspects of their development.

If you have any concerns about your child's wellbeing online, please do speak to us so we can support you.

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦

Please see below for the attendance data for the last two weeks. The overall school attendance has been much lower than we would like to see, as it represents a lot of lost learning .

From the first day of term to the last, the small moments in a school day make a real difference to your child. #AttendanceCounts

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

SAFEGUARDING AND WELLBEING - HELP AVAILABLE FROM SCHOOL

if you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. FREE EASTER HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

Please see below for a letter from East Riding of Yorkshire Council about their free holiday activity programme. You can tap here to view flyers of activities in the Goole and Howden area and here for SEND activities.

Dear Parent and Carers

Free Easter holiday activities across the East Riding

As part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF), East Riding of Yorkshire Council is offering children and young people the opportunity to enjoy fun activities as part of a national scheme funded by the Department for Education.

There are lots of activities available, including sports camps to crazy science experiment workshops, dance sessions to outdoor adventure. Whilst all our activities are inclusive, we also have a specific SEND programme which consists of farm experiences and UV glow team games. There are over 30 HAF providers delivering across the county and we hope you find something your child/children will enjoy. The programmes are open to all children and young people aged 5-16 years old who go to an East Riding school and are in receipt of benefits related free school meals. There are also a limited number of places available for pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan. Details of the activities and how to book are listed on our webpage at https://www.activeeastriding.co.uk/holiday-activities-and-food/

Each child and young person can book up to 4 sessions in the Easter holidays subject to availability, with funded places granted on a first come, first served basis. The vast majority of HAF sessions are 4 hours long with some of our providers offering paid places on their holiday schemes for everyone to enjoy the same activities. New to HAF this Easter are free swimming, circuit classes, multi-sports and zorb football for your teenagers, and music workshops in Bridlington, Beverley and Withernsea.

To be the first to hear about the activities in your area, sign up to our newsletter at https://www.activeeastriding.co.uk/holiday-activities-and-food/#newsletter New programmes are being added all the time, so please continue to visit the website for more information. The Holiday Activities and Food programme runs during the Easter, summer and Christmas breaks, so don’t forget to search for HAF sessions in these holidays too. We hope you will take advantage of these fantastic free activities and enjoy a fun-filled Easter.
