LMS Celebration of Learning 2024
The Larson Celebration of Learning was back this past Wednesday! The event allowed students to showcase their learning stories and experiences at Larson this year. Students from 6th-8th grade were excited to share their experiences with the incoming class of 2031, their families, and the Larson community. There were keynote speakers, open house learning stories, fine arts display, music, food, and so much more! If you missed it, hope to see you next year!!!
Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth Parental Notification
Our school is taking part in the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth Survey supported by the Michigan Department of Education. The research survey will ask about the health behaviors of 7th, 9th and 11th graders across Michigan. The survey will ask about behavior and attitude related to nutrition, physical activity, injuries, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use.
Students will be asked to complete an online survey. Participation in the survey will cause little or no risk to any student. The only potential risk is that some students might find certain questions to be sensitive. The survey has been designed to protect each student’s privacy. Students will not be asked to provide their name or any other identifying information. Also, no school or student will ever be mentioned by name in any reported results. The results of this survey will help students in the future. We would like all selected students to take part in the survey, but the survey is voluntary. No action will be taken against the school, you, or the student if the student does not participate. Students can skip any question that they do not wish to answer. In addition, students may stop participating in the survey at any point without penalty.
The surveys are available at the school for your review. If you have any questions, please email Brian Zawislak at bzawislak@troy.k12.mi.us
If you object to your child’s participation in the survey, please complete the MiPHY Opt Out Form in Power School before June 4, 2024. You only need to complete the form in Power School if you do not give your child permission to take the survey.
Larson Relay for Life - Friday, June 7!
Next week, Larson will be participating in a week-long fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. There are daily opportunities to join in on some fun spirit week days (see included flyer), and participation is just a $1 donation per event. Students may also purchase a wristband for $5 instead, which covers all spirit days and comes with additional perks! On Friday, June 7th, LMS students will be participating in our annual school-wide walk-a-thon (Relay for Life). Students have the opportunity to purchase snacks and beverages while participating in a mini-relay during the school day. Everything is "sold" for $1 each, with ALL proceeds going toward the ACS.
We would like to extend the opportunity for families to get involved by accepting donations of Gatorade/water bottles and individually wrapped items (such as chips, cookies, popcorn, etc.). Please drop off any donations under the table in the Main Office vestibule on or before June 6th. Thank you for your help and support with this wonderful cause!!!
Yearbooks Distribution
Yearbook Distribution will be Friday, June 7th! Students should check the list outside of Ms. McHugh's room #709 to see if they have pre-paid for a yearbook.
Students who pre-paid will pick up yearbooks during the following times: 8th grade: 1st hour; 7th grade: 2nd hour; 6th grade: 3rd hour.
If students would like to purchase a yearbook and did not pre-pay, can bring $25 cash only (no change) during the following times only: 8th Graders - A lunch, 7th Graders - B Lunch and 6th Graders C Lunch. If you forget to purchase one Friday, you can purchase a yearbook in the office on Monday as long as supplies last.
8th Grade Party
We really want ALL students to be part of the celebration. If you are currently not signed up due to financial hardship, please reach out Mr. Zawislak at bzawislak@troy.k12.mi.us
Student ID's
Please make sure your student has their ID on them at Larson. IDs help keep the flow of the lunch line moving and are necessary to check books and resources out of the media center. Thanks for your support!
Forgotten Items and Lunch Drop Offs
To ensure safety and security, we are encouraging all student items to be dropped off on the blue cart in the vestibule and labeled with a sticky note. In addition to the sticky note, please use the Daily Drop off Log to put your students name and item. We will be going through the cart every hour to make sure items get to your student in a timely manner.
2024 Washington DC Trip Info & Date Change
As we wrap up the last few weeks of school, we needed to let you know that we have decided to change the date for our Washington DC trip coming up this fall. We are now planning to travel THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24 AND RETURNING HOME SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27TH. We have made this decision to try to avoid a few holiday conflicts that are happening around the same time.
We realize that this may create some conflicts for some families, and for that we apologize. If you need to cancel because of the change, Academic Expeditions will refund your trip. We also realize that this may be a welcome change for other families. This will also mean that our students will miss two full days of school.
Currently we have 100 students signed up and we have space for 150, so if you know anyone who would like to travel with us, please let them know it's not too late yet, and maybe these new dates will be helpful. Attached is an updated flyer with registration information, and registration is now open! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Lee at jlee@troy.k12.mi.us
Troy Robotics Spring Update
Congratulations Rebel Droids!
Congratulations to our very own Larson robotics team Rebel Droids 12548 for their success at the recent First Tech Challenge Robotics (FTC) competition held at Freeland, Michigan!! After a lot of hard work and dedication, it was finally May 18; the day of the Rebel Droids' spring tournament. This competition was especially important to them because the team has many new members who are incoming 6th graders. This competition was to show the newcomers how the actual tournament in fall would work and how to be ready for all situations. The Rebel Droids won 2 out of 5 matches, but, in a nail biting selection for the final 12 teams, they got chosen by the 4th ranked team to be in the playoffs! There are 3 matches for each alliance (a group of 2-3 separate teams) to be played in the playoffs. Because of their sincere efforts, Rebel Droids won their match for their alliance. Unfortunately, the other two teams in their alliance lost the other 2 matches, which was the end of the competition for the Rebel Droids. This was still an amazing experience for the team due to the fact that they got into the playoffs on their first competition. They did about 5-6 outreach events (where they spread the word about their team and promoted FTC Robotics) and helped the community any way they could, which paid off when they got a special mention in the connect award category! Congrats again to Rebel Droids 12548 and may they continue in their success.

Jennathon 2024!
Looking for a fun, active opportunity to give back to our community? Believe in Miracles will be hosting Jennathon 2024 on Saturday, June 8th!! This is a 5k race (with other options as well) that benefits Believe in Miracles, a troy-based charity that grants wishes to kids who are struggling with life-threatening illnesses. Believe in Miracles was actually started by a previous Larson student, Brett Kast, as his sister was receiving chemotherapy, so we have a very a close connection with this organization and would greatly appreciate seeing familiar faces there! If you are interested, please register using this link:
