Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 6th June 2025

Preloved stall this afternoon!

We have so many items on offer that need a new home - please help us to recycle them. Come along to the West studio after school today (Fri 6th) and pick up any uniform, clothing and more if you need. All are available free of charge.

Year 6 Eden Camp

Year 6 enjoyed their day learning more about World War 2 on their trip to Eden Camp.

Class Photos

Just a reminder that Tempest are in school on Tuesday 10th June to take class photos.

Tombola Prizes

Our Community Champion pupils will be running some stalls at the Summer Fair, including a tombola. They would be very grateful for any donations of prizes. If you have any items you would be willing to donate, please bring to the school office. Thank you for your support.

Reception Emergency Services trip

The Reception children had a fantastic visit to the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield. They took part in a workshop and got hands-on with history, handling a mixture of genuine and replica objects. They then explored the museum, trying on uniforms and coming face to face with emergency vehicles they could climb on-board!

Shed Design Competition

Thank you to all of the children who have submitted designs for the shed competition. We have extended the closing date until next Wednesday, so please return your designs soon if you have not done so already.

A winning design will be picked to be painted on each shed (East & West). The winners will also receive a £10 token each. All year groups can enter a design for either shed. Please click the button below to print an entry form, or use a blank page of A4 but make sure you add your name and class.

Summer Fair

Just a reminder about that The Friends of Parkside PTA are putting on the Summer Fair on Tuesday 8th July, from 3.30-5.30pm.

The PTA would still appreciate more volunteers to help with the event. If you can assist in any way, please get in touch. You can connect with them via the Facebook group here.

Summer Discos

The Friends of Parkside PTA are also organising Summer Discos for the children on Thursday 26th June from 3:30-4:30pm. Years 3 to 6 will be in the West Hall and Reception, Year 1 and 2 in the East Hall.

Tickets are £3, which includes juice, crisps and a cake bar. Please purchase tickets on ParentPay by Thursday 19th June.

World Sports

During the Spring term, children in KS2 took part in an Active World Sports programme, provided by the East Riding. The company made a return visit this week and the Year 5 and 6 children enjoyed taking part in an Indiana Jones style warm up and then a Canadian game of Kim ball.

Important Safety Notice

As part of Child Safety Week, children have been reminded about keeping safe when walking to/from school & playing out independently in the community. This has included discussions around stranger awareness and keeping off private property (be this driveways, gardens or passage ways in-between houses). We would appreciate it if these same messages could also be given at home as we have had reports of some Parkside pupils engaging in this type of behaviour.

Anxiety Workshop

We sent out a letter this week about a Managing Anxiety Workshop running on Wed 11th June. Please click here for a reminder and to sign up.

Reading is the key!

Please can we reiterate to all parents and the carers the importance of reading with your child - it really is the key to opening up the world to them.

The Book Trust has lots of advice for parents about reading together. Click here to have a look.

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance data for the last week before half term. The overall school attendance was very low at 91.8%. Please can we stress that the children are learning right up to the end of each term, and all days in school are important. Please also remember that holidays during term time cannot be authorised.

Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

Absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).

Parent Guides

Emojis aren’t just digital decoration — they’re often used as a coded language that young people use to express identity, humour and emotion. Without context, they can easily be misunderstood by adults, leading to confusion or missed signals. Some emojis may even mask risky behaviours or emotional struggles.

This guide helps decode this ever-evolving language, empowering parents and educators to have more open, informed conversations with the children in their care. It also highlights the meaning of some common emojis and offers practical tips for staying clued-in without snooping or suspicion. Click here to view as a pdf.
