SLT Update

This week we had our Sports Day on Monday with Aqua being triumphant in bringing home the Sports Day Cup - Congratulations Aqua! On Tuesday we welcomed our new year 7s at CRA for their Transition Day. Its a great opportunity for them to start to integrate into the CRA way of life and they had a fun day sampling some lessons, taking part in their first house competition and buying their new CRA uniform ready for September. On Thursday a group of our Sports Leaders supported at Corby Glen Primary School with their Sports Day and were, as ever, excellent ambassadors for CRA. Next week is the last week of term and we have a busy one! Summer Cup on Tuesday, house reveal assembly on Wednesday and Open Evening, the house rewards trip to Drayton Manor on Thursday and CRA rewards assembly on Friday! How much can you fit into a week?!

Inspiration Awards 2024

We are over the moon to be announced at the DRET Inspiration Awards as Academy of the Year 2024! We have all worked so hard to make positive progress with our students in their academic studies and develop their wider enrichment experiences. All our staff go above and beyond to support and build relationships on a daily basis to help our students feel part of our amazing community. It was wonderful last night to have that recognised formally by the Trust and there were lots of cheers and jumping in the hall when it was announced by everyone! Well done Team CRA!

GCSE Results Day: Thursday 22nd August

The school will be open to Year 11 students from 10:00am until 11:00am to collect their examination results. Students should enter school by main reception and then proceed to the main hall, where results will be available to collect in a sealed envelope from members of SLT. We will be operating an appointment-based system, each appointment will be 5 minutes in length between 10:00-11:00am. Please use the link below to book an appointment time.

These results will be given to named students only. If your child is unable to come to collect their results in person, a family member can pick them up on their behalf but, they must have signed written permission from the student in order to receive the results. If it is not possible for anyone to come in and collect results, then these can be emailed directly to students' school email addresses by Miss Thorpe. If you have any further questions about GCSE Results Day, please contact Mr Cronin -

CRA Character

Part of our raising standards drive this week has been a focus on character. SLT have produced 5 do nows this week that have focused on reminding the students about the following: The CRA Character Mountain, the importance of good manners and saying sorry, how to be a good role model for others, disruption free learning and what it means when we say "we are 3 houses, 1 commUNITY"

Times Tables

At the end of all lessons students stand behind their chairs in silence to prepare for themselves for the next lesson. From September, on a weekly rota, Years 7 and 8 will be reciting their timetables to help embed them in their long term memory.

Dealing with exam results - Managing your feelings

As there is only 1 week to go until we break up for the summer, for our Year 11 students that have now left this could be a time of stress and worry about receiving their GCSE results on 22nd August.

The BBC have outlined some helpful coping strategies as they recognise that GCSE and Nationals results day can be stressful! If you are worried about receiving your exam results, there are some things you can do to make results day a little easier.

Table Talk

The DRET summer cup is our version of the Olympic games. We can draw comparisons and talked to our students about the Olympic games and their values. With the Paris Olympics due to start on 26th July (just a week into our school holidays) please take the time to talk to your children about the Olympics and in particular the Olympic values and how these can be used in our everyday lives. Perhaps find a time when you have demonstrated these values to discuss with your son/daughter or a time in life when they may need to show these values. The Olympic values are:

  • Excellence - Excellence means doing the best we can, on the field of play or in our professional life. The important thing is not winning, but taking part, making progress and enjoying the healthy combination of body, will and mind.
  • Respect - This includes respect for yourself and your body, for other people, for rules and regulations, for sport and for the environment.
  • Friendship - Friendship is at the heart of the Olympic Movement. It encourages us to see sport as an instrument for mutual understanding between individuals, and between people all over the world.

Thinking Ahead – My Future, My Choice

Each week we will show you examples of the various careers linked to the subject you are studying. This week’s career idea is ‘Jobs related to catering'

Aqua Crowned 2024 Sports Day Champions

On Monday students and staff at Charles Read Academy represented their house teams across 10 events, in the bid to be crowned 2024 Sports Day champions.

Sports Day got underway with field events in the morning before an exciting Tug of War battle between tutor groups and staff teams. Students across each year group contributed to the leaderboard at the different events throughout the day, with the house with the highest accumulated points total crowned champions. The atmosphere throughout the day was electric with students and staff creating a sea of house colours – Blue, Yellow and Green were being worn with pride.

The day concluded with a series of 100m, 200m and relay races, including a staff relay race at the end.

Aqua retained the Sports Day trophy after a three year wait. Well to done everyone who took part!

Free Sports Sessions

Please find attached a link to sports sessions that are ran by Grantham Positive Futures for free around Grantham.

Please can all students be collected from the BACK of the school when being picked up from after school clubs and fixtures.

Sports Kit

Please can any borrowed sports kit be returned as soon as possible. We have trainers, hoodies, netball dresses and football kit (shirts, shorts and socks) that have not been returned. This means that students are unable to also borrow these items for fixtures and limits teams when wanting to wear a full, matching kit.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue

My name is Sam Ward, and I'm contacting you from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue (LFR). We're currently running a recruitment drive for on-call firefighters across Lincolnshire and are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team.

As part of our outreach efforts, we're reaching out to schools in the area to see if they'd be willing to include an information sheet in their upcoming newsletters distributed to parents.

The information sheet details the application process, the valuable role on-call firefighters play in our communities, and the benefits of joining LFR. We believe this would be a great opportunity to raise awareness of this rewarding position among parents who might be interested in making a difference.

I've attached the information sheet to this email for your reference. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any further information.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
