What's On? Week 5 | Term 2 - 2025 | Mullumbimby High School Newsletter

Message from our Principal

As we find ourselves at the halfway point of the term (already), we begin National Reconciliation Week. A time for all Australians to learn about our shared history, reflect on the past, and commit to building a future that is fair and inclusive for everyone. It is a week where we remember major legislation changes like the 1967 Referendum and the 1992 Mabo Decision. It is a week where we are reminded that only by coming together with courage, respect and unity can progress be made.

The theme for this year is "Bridging Now to Next". It asks us to think deeply about where we are right now—and where we want to go next. It’s about action. About moving beyond words and into the kind of work that helps close the gap, build relationships, and tell the truth about our history.

As Paul Keating said in his famous Redfern Speech, “We cannot imagine that we will fail to acknowledge the past and still do justice in the present. We must start with that.”

And Uncle Archie Roach once reminded us, “We need to keep telling the truth. Truth leads to understanding, and understanding leads to healing.”

Here at Mullumbimby High School, reconciliation means continuing to learn from the oldest living cultures on earth. It means listening with open hearts, celebrating First Nations voices, and standing up against racism in all its forms.

So this week, I encourage each of us to ask: What can I do to help build a bridge—from now, to what comes next? Because reconciliation is not just about history. It’s about the future. And every one of us has a role to play.

This week from the P&C

Through consultation with department heads, we’ve created a wishlist from their requests of items on which to spend some funds raised by the P&C. We continue to refine this list, and make purchases accordingly. We aim for assets that serve large numbers of the school community, ideally over a long period of time. Watch this space for updates on items we purchase for the school.
