Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 2.

I hope this message finds you refreshed and ready for another engaging term ahead. As we step into this new phase of the year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all our students, staff, and families.

Term 2 brings with it fresh opportunities for growth, learning, and success. Whether you're returning to continue your journey with us or joining our school community for the first time, I am excited about for the possibilities this term will present.

Exciting developments are underway. Our artist-in-residence is set to collaborate with students from Year 1 to Year 6 on planning a 125th anniversary artwork for installation inside the Rhodes Scholars gates on Angove Street. We're eagerly awaiting the creative designs our students will produce.

Additionally, mark your calendars for Thursday 2 May, as we'll be hosting a dress-up day themed around 1899. This promises to be a fun and engaging event for all. Furthermore, a variety of incursions and excursions are scheduled, enriching our curriculum and providing valuable learning experiences for our students.

I would like to extend an invitation to our community to join us for our ANZAC Ceremony next Wednesday 24 April at 9:00 am as we come together to pay tribute to the men and women who have served and are serving our country.

Best wishes for a successful and fulfilling term ahead.

Student numbers required for WA Student Assistance Program

The State Government have introduced a new initiative to help with cost-of-living pressures for families with school-aged children. The new WA Student Assistance Payment will provide parents and carers with a $250 payment for each secondary student, and $150 for each primary school student or kindergartener. You will need a valid WA Student Number (WASN) to be eligible for the payment. To make it easy for you, we have sent home a letter today with your child’s student number. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Stop Work Action

As you may already be aware, there will be a scheduled stop work action next Tuesday 23, April as directed by the State School Teacher’s Union WA. Further details regarding the impact of this action on our operations at North Perth will be communicated shortly. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate through this situation.

Staffing update

I am delighted to announce that both Libby Goodwin and Anna Dennis will continue serving as deputy principals. Currently, Ms. Goodwin will hold the position for Term 2, while Mrs. Dennis will fulfill the role for the first four weeks. There is a possibility of extension, and I will provide updates accordingly.

Additionally, Mrs. Lee, our Room 14 Year 1 teacher, has been appointed to the role for the remainder of the year. Furthermore, Mrs. Cullen, our Education Assistant in Room 16, has secured a position at North Perth PS. Congratulations to both Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Cullen. We are fortunate to welcome such talented educators to our team.

Containers for Change

This year, we have revamped our Containers for Change recycling program. All containers raised will go towards a student led wish list item for the school. This could include an LED screen in the undercover area, new library furniture or permanent outdoor table tennis tables.

If you have any containers with a 10 cent mark, please feel free to collect these and send them in with your child to school so they can take the containers to their classrooms. All classrooms have a Containers for Change recycling bag which is tallied each week. The total amount from all classes will be announced at each assembly and published in the newsletter to give staff, students and parents an update.

We collected 3,378 containers in the last 3 weeks of Term 1. This is 85% of the total amount raised for the whole of 2023. Our current goal is currently 50,000 containers.

Thank you for the continued support,

Voluntary Contributions

Contributions from parents play a vital role in supporting our school's resources and initiatives. The $60.00 voluntary contribution goes towards leasing iPads and acquiring interactive whiteboards, enriching the learning experience for our students.
