Welcome to the Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging, Semester 1, 2026

Dear student; Welcome to the Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging at Ultimo. This page will be your starting point with all relevant links and updates related to the course until you attend Mandatory ORIENTATION, starting the week of February 2nd 2026. Please read this page and keep checking it, along with your email, until advised otherwise by myself or one of our staff.

Once you have enrolled you will need to:

  1. Register for Orientation
  2. Create your Timetable
  3. Test your TAFE connectivity
  4. Log into Microsoft, Adobe and LinkedIn Learning accounts

1. REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION

You only need to attend one of the three available sessions. Orientation is a structured event, so please make sure you arrive promptly for your chosen session start time. It’s not a drop‑in session, and you’ll need to attend for the full duration. Use the links below to register for your prefered Orientation Session

2. CREATE YOUR TIMETABLE

The CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging consists of 4 main subject areas, containing 15 units in total.

We offer a unique flexible timetable system. The timetable below shows the available times for all weekly classes for the duration of a semester. We offer each class several times a week so you can choose classes that suit your circumstances. Use the booking system link to choose your classes. You will only have access to this link only once you have enrolled in the course. This booking system is designed to give you maximum flexibility. Subjects 1 and 3 can be undertaken remote-online or on campus-face to face. Your final selection will form your timetable for the entire semester. Please note your selected classes for future reference.

Subject 1: INDUSTRY PRACTICE | PROCESS (2 units) - 3.5hrs Subject 1: INDUSTRY PRACTICE | ENHANCE (2 units) - 3.5hrs Subject 2: CAPTURE ON LOCATION (3 units) - 3.5hrs Subject 3: COLOUR, CREATIVE PROCESS & COMMUNICATION (5 units) - 3.5hrs Subject 4: LIGHTING & STUDIO (3 units) - 3.5hrs

Please note that Subject 1: INDUSTRY PRACTICE is split into 2 areas: PROCESS and ENHANCE.

We only make the Timetable booking system available to ACTIVE students (An active student is enrolled and has made the minimum payment) by adding your TAFE email address to the database of the booking system. This is a manual process. If you are an ACTIVE student and are getting an error message when you enter your TAFE email address, please email dario.gardiman1@tafensw.edu.au or rose.mousavi@tafensw.edu.au immediately with URGENT: I CAN'T ACCESS TIMETABLE in the email subject line so it stands out. Include your TAFE email address in the body of the email and we will add it and respond via email when it's done.

FULL TIME STUDENTS

Full Time (FT) students attend all of the above subjects, totalling 17.5 hrs/week. FT students complete the CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging in one semester (18 weeks).

PART TIME STUDENTS

Part Time (PT) students attend subjects 1 (2 classes: PRO & ENH) and 2 (CAPTURE ON LOCATION) in their 1st semester, totalling 10.5hrs/week, and subjects 3, 4 in their 2nd semester. PT students complete the CUA41120 Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging in two semesters (36 weeks).

How to read the Class Codes:

1_PRO_MonM = Subject#_Subject-Name_Day_Time-of-day

  • 1_PRO_MonM is short for: Subject 1_ PROCESS Monday Morning
  • 2_CAP_ThuA is short for: Subject 2_CAPTURE ON LOCATION Thursday Afternoon
  • 4_LIG_ThuE is short for: Subject 4_LIGHTING & STUDIO Thursday Evening
  • etc, etc...
Remember: Your TAFE email address is case sensitive. Use lower case characters only when typing in your TAFE email address
Note: New FT Students Semester 1, 2026: Select "New Full Time (FT) student (commencing January 2026)" and New PT Students Semester 1, 2026: Select "New Part Time (PT) student (commencing January 2026)"

3. TEST YOUR TAFE CONNECTIVITY

Let's test your TAFE NSW connectivity...

1. Your TAFE account - logging into the Student Portal

Go to my.tafensw.edu.au and log in using your username and password issued to you when you confirmed your enrolment. Only students with ACTIVE enrolments will be able to login.

If you log in successfully, you should now see your Student Portal. This is where you can access your email and other TAFE services, including checking your results later in the semester. If you are logging in for the first time with a temporary password you will be prompted to Change Password immediately - please do this as instructed.

This is Student Portal page. by clicking on the circle in the right corner of the page, you can select "Reset password" to reset password. under the "Tools" section, you can click on Outlook to access your TAFE EMAIL.

2. Microsoft Office 365

As a TAFE student you have a free subscription to Office 365 available for your use on your personal devices. To access your subscription you must login to Microsoft using your TAFE email address. You can also download and install the office365 package to your MAC or PC.

Once you are logged into Office 365, follow the steps to download and install the office 365 package, most importantly Word, Outlook and Teams.

3. Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription

As a TAFE student you have a free subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud, available for your use at home. To access your subscription you must login to Adobe using your TAFE email address. This may not be available until ORIENTATION week at the earliest.

Once you are logged into Adobe, follow the steps to download and install the Creative Cloud application, then Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic and Bridge.

4. LinkedIn Learning

As a TAFE student you have a free subscription to the LinkedIn Learning resources, available for your use at home. To access your subscription you must login to LinkedIn Learning using your TAFE email address.

Once you are logged into LinkedIn Learning, you will have access to hundreds of videos/courses to help you with personal, digital and technical skills. Your teachers will refer you to certain videos during your study this semester. Feel free to start exploring to get a head start on Photoshop and Lightroom!
