For Deuce Geter, Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium is just one canvas that he uses to express himself. The junior safety has always had many passions growing up; football, business, food and the arts just to name a few.

Geter first started playing football in a flag football league as a young child and immediately fell in love with the sport. While playing flag, he even started tackling other players during the games. Once he turned seven, the Virginia native started to play tackle football.

“My mom was really scared of letting me tackle,” said Geter. “I ended up starting to play and I actually played running back when I first started because of my dad, who got me into the sport.”

Deuce’s father, Michael Geter, has been an influence on him ever since he was born; they even share a name. Deuce’s government name is actually Michael Geter II, after his father. The nickname Deuce was one that came about immediately because of Dana, Deuce’s mother.

“I remember my mom telling me that she thought 'juniors' were bad kids which is why she always refers to me as 'the second',” said Geter. “Then, the nickname Deuce was born out of that.”

Not only did Geter get his name from his father, he also got his passion for football from him as well. Michael Geter played football all throughout his childhood and continued his football journey to UNC for college. After finishing at UNC, he was a part of the New England Patriots training camp.

Deuce Geter was a very talented multi-sport athlete as a child. He played football, basketball and ran track, but he always knew that football was where he was the best and happiest. While playing the sport, Geter jumped around between positions trying to find the right fit for himself.

“I was an offensive guy up until my sophomore year of high school when I started playing corner,” said Geter. “Then, as I kept getting bigger and was finding my place, we realized I wasn’t really a corner either, which is when I moved to safety. Now, I am kind of like a hybrid role between a linebacker and safety at Bucknell.”

It was always a goal of Geter’s to try to get a scholarship for football, play collegiately and get a chance in the NFL. His father really helped to put him in the best position possible to make the beginnings of those goals a reality by helping his son in any way he could.

“My dad did a lot for me when I was going through that time of recruitment,” said Geter. “Because of his past, he knew a lot of people that he could ask to help me out. Anything I needed, he had someone that could help me with it. For example, if I needed to work on DB skills he would get someone from college to send me videos of what I could do, which really helped. I also started to work out more and spend more time developing skills.”

Geter’s recruitment process moved slower than most because he was being looked at when COVID-19 and the transfer portal were both taking over the world. After his junior year of high school where Geter had the best statistical season of his high school career, he began to get some collegiate offers.

“I remember when I got my first offer, I was very excited,” said Geter. “Bucknell was the second to offer and I just remember being very happy when I came to the realization that playing collegiate football somewhere was something that could actually happen for me. It was the actual reality of a dream coming true.”

The Bucknell safety was a part of defensive coordinator, Chris Bowers’, first recruiting class at Bucknell ahead of the 2023 season.

“During the process of choosing Bucknell, there were a lot of new things going on here and I really wanted to be a part of something that was new,” said Geter. “I wanted to go somewhere that I would be able to make an immediate impact and I really felt like I could do that at Bucknell and with Coach Bowers. It felt like he really liked me and thought I would do great things.”

Another aspect of Bucknell that drew Geter in was the people. Geter is a very social and caring person that strives to meet all different kinds of people and build connections and he really feels like Bucknell is a great place for that.

“Every time I do recruiting visits or official visits, I always say that the people make up everything here,” said Geter.

Being from a suburban area in Virginia, Geter was worried that moving to a small town in Pennsylvania would make it more difficult to be social and meet all different groups of people, but was pleasantly surprised that that isn’t the case.

“That was one of my biggest fears when I came here,” said Geter. “Not being able to meet all different kinds of people. Even though it is a smaller school though, I haven't had any of those issues that I thought I might. I am friends with a lot of different types of people here and I know that there are a lot of things I would never have experienced if I didn’t branch out and meet others. That’s why I always try to talk to someone I don't know yet in class and stuff. Being here at a smaller school almost makes you connect more with people you would never think you would be friends with.”

Geter’s collegiate football journey at Bucknell began with his freshman season where he played in eight games, starting six at defensive back. He had an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball as a freshman. His sophomore year is where he hit a road bump. After playing in six games at safety, Geter missed the rest of the season due to an injury, but is coming back stronger than ever to the Bison in 2025 for his junior season.

“After my injury last year, one of my personal goals is to stay healthy,” said Geter. “I want to be able to stay on the field throughout the whole season and win a lot of games with the team.”

Another goal Geter has for the 2025 season is to be an all-conference player.

“We had a good year last year and I think that it’s a good stepping stone to where we could be at as a team,” said Geter. “I just want to follow the path and keep excelling. I want to be an all-conference player this year as well, that’s a big goal of mine, probably the only goal I have that has to do with stats. I also obviously want to win a championship with this team because we were so close last year.”

The final goal that Geter has for himself is to step into a more leadership role as a junior and be a good mentor for the younger players on the team.

“I really enjoy mentoring others and a lot of that comes from having a little brother, Chase, who is going through similar things to these guys since he is finishing high school this year and then going to Syracuse to play football,” said Geter.

He also feels like he should pay forward the help and mentorship he received when he was a freshman in high school playing football.

“I had someone who really took me under their wing and he was someone that I could look up to,” said Geter. “I really valued that, so I want to do the same for someone else. I want to be a person that people can follow and just really be a good example for those to come.”

Geter’s mindset about football is centered around the idea that it is a team sport and not a sport that you should be selfish in.

“I always help out the people in my position group because the more people that are succeeding, the better the team will be as a whole,” said Geter. “Just worrying about yourself and how you look as individual might make you look good on the field, but it doesn’t help the team win games as a unit which is really important to me and why I always want to help out those other guys when they need it,”

With a lot of new faces this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball, Geter and the rest of the team are really focused on team and position group bonding. T\Outside of bonding events, the upperclassmen are making extra time to go and help the freshmen study the playbook and work on things that they need to learn or just want some extra help with.

“I really think we have the pieces to win this year,” said Geter. “We just have to put it all together, keep the belief and trust in each other. I know we can do it, we just have to do it all together.”

Outside of football, Geter has always been described as a really artsy person by his family and friends. Whenever he is bored or has free time, he will create or design different things, watch movies, listen to music or work on some business ideas for the future. He is currently an art and design major at Bucknell with a minor in marketing.

“I always wanted to start a clothing line,” said Geter. “Probably since my freshman year of high school I have been telling everyone that I wanted to do it. I never fully sat down and actually made it happen until last year when I was hurt and had more time.”

After his injury during the 2024 season, Geter launched his own clothing brand called No Label. He has designed and sold different types of clothing over the past year. Through this venture, Geter has sharpened his skills in graphic design, branding and creative direction as well as gained firsthand experience in entrepreneurship and e-commerce.

“Starting my line was a lot harder than people make it seem,” said Geter. “There are a lot of behind the scenes stuff that you don’t really think about doing like finding people to make the clothes, designing a website and marketing your clothing line. Designing the clothes are easy, but pricing them and finding ways to sell them, not as easy. Building a clothing line like this is a lot both cost-wise and time-wise and I am doing a lot of it by myself which has been hard but it has also been fun and interesting to navigate how to do all of these different things. I’ve had the line for about a year now and have dropped a bunch of different clothes. I’ve been learning how to market it on TikTok and Instagram which has also been challenging, but fun.”

Next up for the clothing line, Geter wants to design a full sweatsuit which he already has ideas for. He is hoping to keep growing his line and building it into something bigger as he navigates through his last two years as a collegiate athlete and gears up for the future ahead.

On top of his clothing line, Geter also started an e-commerce store where he sells daily household products in the realm of sports nutrition, laundry and cleaning supplies.

“I have always been an entrepreneurial type of person who wants to have their own business,” said Geter. “I remember when I was kind of young, there were three businesses I wanted to have. Something to do with clothing, something to do with desserts like an ice cream store and a nightclub. I am just the kind of person who wants to be very independent and be my own boss.”

While design is a major part of Geter’s life and a great passion of his, he also enjoys other aspects of the arts like movies and music.

“I am a big movie guy,” said Geter. “I love just sitting down and watching movies. My favorite movie genre is definitely action and I really love the Fast and Furious movie series since it combines cars and action which are both things I enjoy. Another one of my favorites is Planet of the Apes.”

Music is also a huge part of Geter’s list of passions. While what he listens to varies by his mood, he is a big fan of rap, old r&b, pop and even a little country.

“My favorite artists are A Boogie, Shaboozey and NoCap,” said Geter. “When it comes to football game days music is definitely a part of that as well. In the morning I will listen to slower, more calming music since I am trying not to get riled up too early. One song I like is Sweet Victory by Trip Lee. As we get closer to game time, I switch to more rap and one of my go to songs for that time is ABG by Quando Rondo, that song really gets me hyped up.”

Geter has also been taking his artistic abilities into the kitchen as he has been learning to cook recently, which he is really enjoying.

“I really like to cook food and eat different types of food,” said Geter. “I got into cooking this past year, so I really am expanding that now and learning new things to make. Right now my favorite thing to cook is chicken, which I cook in many different ways. My family just got a grill at home so I recently grilled for the first time and that has been fun too. Just experimenting with different things is fun.

With many different passions, time management and making sure you are taking care of yourself has become a very important aspect of Geter’s life.

“Once camp starts and I’m in season, football is my main thing because that’s why I’m here,” said Geter. “I set aside time to do other little things when I can and I make sure that I am not trying to look at what other people are doing. When you start comparing yourself to others that’s when you want to just push and push and then it becomes too much and it can be overwhelming, so I try to stay away from that.”

With camp winding down and the Bison’s first game fastly approaching at Air Force on August 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET, Geter is looking forward to the challenge.

“Air Force runs an option offense which will be a good test for us,” said Geter. “We also get to fly there and the stadium is a really nice environment to be in, so it’s going to be a good experience for us all. I think if we are able to put together some of the pieces we are building it will be a really good game.”
