New England Small College Invite

On Sunday January 29th, the Mammoths competed at the New England Small College Invitational, held at the TRACK at New Balance. The meet featured all of the schools in the NESCAC conference in an unscored meet. It was a very successful day, highlighted by School Records from Mia Bawendi in the Pole Vault, Eliza Cardwell in the 60 Hurdles and Casie Eifrig in the 400!

60 Hurdles

The Hurdlers kicked off the meet with a bang, as four Mammoths qualified for the Women's 60 Hurdles Final! Eliza Cardwell ran the fastest time in the Prelims, winning her heat in a time of 8.79 seconds, a season best! Myeh Medina won her heat in a huge personal best time of 9.31 seconds, earning a spot in the final! Anastasia Ioppolo placed third in the same heat as Myeh, running a time of 9.62 seconds that also earned her a spot in the final by running the 6th fastest time overall in the prelims. Arissa Grace McGowan won her heat in a time of 9.50 seconds, earning a lane in the final and putting four Mammoths in the Hurdle Final!

In the Final, Eliza Cardwell won in a stellar time of 8.71 seconds, a new School Record! Arissa placed third, running a season best time of 9.40 seconds! Myeh placed fourth ina time of 9.49 seconds and Anastasia improved upon her time in the prelims, running a time of 9.55 seconds to place 6th!

In the Men's 60 Hurdles, Michael Gerfen placed 17th in a time of 9.12 seconds.

60 Meter Dash

Héloïse Hughes ran the third fastest time in the preliminaries of the 60 Meter Dash, qualifying for the final in a time of 8.02 seconds by winning her heat! Then in the final, Héloïse placed third in a personal best time of 7.94 seconds!

Rachel Hubley placed 10th overall, running a time of 8.11 seconds, a personal best! Zoe Mulvihill ran a strong race to run a personal best time of 8.36 seconds, placing 17th overall! Olivia Tennant placed 18th and ran a personal best time of 8.41 seconds!

In the Men's 60 Meter Dash, Alex Nichols and Ben Bell both qualified for the final, placing fourth and fifth, respectively! Alex ran a time of 7.14 seconds in the prelims, qualifying to the final with the 8th fastest time. Then in the final, Alex had a fantastic race, running a huge personal best time of 7.05 seconds! Ben Bell won his preliminary heat in a time of 7.07 seconds, qualifying for the final as the third fastest time! In the final, Ben ran a time of 7.08 seconds!

Cody Pierce ran a strong race, placing tenth in a time of 7.19 seconds! Theo Woodward ran a strong race to place 26th in a time of 7.37 seconds, not far off his personal best in the event! Ben Williams placed 30th overall and tied his personal best, running a time of 7.45 seconds!

Weight Throw

The Weight Throw was the first field event of the day to be contested, and Charlie Spurrell competed hard to place fourth with a throw of 16.06 meters (52' 8.25")! David Brown threw well, placing eighth with a throw of 14.80 meters (48' 6.75")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi executed the best he ever has, placing fourteenth with a throw of 13.56 meters (44' 6")! Jacob Shine set a personal best for the second week in a row with a throw of 11.11 meters (36' 5.5"), placing 25th, just ahead of teammate Alex MacDonald who placed 26th with a throw of 10.36 meters (34' 0")!

In the Women's Weight Throw, Beth Martin set a personal best for the second week in a row, throwing a mark of 12.48 meters (40' 11.5") to place eighth! Emma Ramsingh placed 14th with a throw of 11.20 meters (36' 9"), Deb Thayer placed 19th with a throw of 9.65 meters (31' 8") and Isabella Niemi placed 24th with a throw of 8.22 meters (26' 11.75").

Long Jump

The Long Jump was another exciting event for the Mammoths and the Women's Long Jumpers showcased their depth by all placing in the top-5! Eliza Cardwell won with her stellar first jump of 5.54 meters (18' 2.25")! Muffie Mazambani placed third with a season best jump of 5.41 meter (17' 9"), Leah Smith placed fourth with a season best jump of 5.34 meters (17' 6.25") and Anastasia Ioppolo placed fifth with a jump of 5.30 meters (17' 4.75")!

In the Men's Long Jump, Adrian Friedman placed third with a jump of 6.55 meters (21' 6")! Adding to the Mammoths depth in the event, Kaleb Barrett placed sixth with a jump of 6.27 meters (20' 7")! Michael Gerfen placed 15th with a jump of 5.71 meters (18' 9") and Isaias Wooden enjoyed a collegiate best with his jump of 5.36 meter (17' 7"), which earned him 20th place.

5,000

The 5,000 was the first event on the oval of the day, and Theo Dassin had a great race, placing second in a personal best time of 14:51, a 25-second personal best for the senior! Henry Dennen ran a strong final mile of the race to place third in a time of 14:55! Running in a different heat, Emmett McGrath ran a strong race in his first track 5k, running a time of 15:51 to place fourth in his heat! Daniel Martin placed ninth in his heat in a time of 16:07!

In the Women's 5,000, Claire Callon placed 11th in a time of 18:25 and Allison Lounsbury placed 15th in a time of 18:44.

Mile

Julia Schor won the Mile in a great race, using a big kick with two laps to go in the race to seize the lead. Julia won in a time of 4:58, her first time breaking 5 in the Mile! Zoë Marcus competed in the same heat as Julia and placed ninth in a strong effort, running a time of 5:28. Margo Pedersen helped Julia and Zoë by pacing the Mile too! Thea Crowley competed in a different heat of the Mile and worked her way up well throughout the race, chasing after her competitors. Thea placed ninth in her heat in a time of 5:29!

In the Men's Mile, Ben Davis placed fourth in a personal best time of 4:20! Parker Boyle ran a strong race, placing eighth in a time of 4:23! Running in a different heat, Ian Dopp placed fifth in a time of 4:29 and Oliver Spiva placed seventh in a time of 4:32.

Shot Put

Over in the throwing area, Jacob Shine placed eighth in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.13 meters (43' 1")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi enjoyed a season best throw with a mark of 12.31 meters (40' 4.75"), placing 16th.

In the Women's Shot Put, Emma Ramsingh placed fifth with a throw of 10.53 meters (34' 6.75")! Isabella Niemi placed eighth with a throw of 9.82 meters (32' 2.75")! Zoe Mulvihill, Beth Martin and Deb Thayer placed 13th, 14th and 15th with throw of 9.31 meters (30' 6.5"), 9.09 meters (29' 10") and 9.06 meters (29' 8.75").

In the 400, Casie Eifrig had a fantastic race, using a powerful second lap to place second and run a School Record time of 58.04 seconds! Mads Rabb and Camilla Lash competed in the same heat, placing second and third in a time of 1:02! Halle Hanna and Paige Clark placed first and second in their heat, running times of 1:02 and 1:03, respectively! Chanelle Jaeger and Artis Phillips placed first and second in their heat, both running times of 1:05!

In the Men's 400, Tom Ye won his heat in a time of 52.63 seconds!

800

Kolya Markov-Riss (7)

Kolya Markov-Riss won the 800, kicking past his competitors in the final 100 meters of the race to win in a time of 1:56! Will Nagy ran a strong race as well, placing fourth in a time of 1:56! Competing in a different heat, Josh Thomas ran a strong race, taking the lead from the gun and when challenged by a competitor in the final stages of the race, took back the lead to win in a time of 1:58! Gent Malushaga won his heat of the 800, running solo from gun to tape to win his heat in a time of 2:01 in his first race in 11 months! Oliver Spiva placed fifth in the same heat as Gent in a time of 2:05, doubling back after competing in the Mile.

In the Women's 800, Piper Lentz used a strong final lap to place fifth in a time of 2:20! Ava Zielinski ran a strong race as well, placing eighth in a time of 2:22!

200

The 200 was an awesome event for the Mammoths. Kicking it off, Héloïse Hughes placed second in a time of 25.50 seconds! Rachel Hubley placed second in her heat in a time of 26.91 seconds!

In the Men's 200, Cody Pierce placed third in an indoor personal best time of 22.02 seconds! Alex Nichols continued his strong day, placing ninth overall in a indoor personal best time of 22.65 seconds! Jai Dreher competed in the 200 for the first time in several years and placed third in his heat in a time of 22.77 seconds! Ben Bell placed second in his heat in a time of 22.89 seconds and Theo Woodward won his heat in a huge personal best time of 23.35 seconds!

Pole Vault

In the Women's Pole Vault, Mia Bawendi set the School Record, clearing 3.60 meters (11' 9.75") to place second! First, Mia cleared 3.50 meters (11' 5.75") to break the previous School Record of 3.40 meters, and then Mia cleared 3.60 meters on her second attempt! Payton Sorensen and Jordan Hecker both placed sixth for clearing 3.25 meters (10' 8"), tying their season best! Bridget Cassata tied her season best, clearing 2.95 meters (9' 8")!

In the Men's Pole Vault, Alec Kuzyk placed tenth, clearing 4.10 meters (13' 5.25") and challenged himself to use bigger poles in the competition.

Triple Jump

The Triple Jump was another excellent event for the Mammoths! Myeh Medina made her collegiate debut in the event and placed second, jumping 11.22 meters (36' 9.75")! Leah Smith placed fourth in a huge personal best jump of 10.89 meters (35' 8.75")! Muffie Mazambani and Anastasia Ioppolo placed sixth and seventh with jumps of 10.76 meters (35' 3.75") and 10.61 meters (34' 9.75"), respectively, and Olivia Steele placed 11th, jumping 9.76 meters (32' 0.25")!

In the Men's Triple Jump, Kaleb Barrett placed second with a huge personal best jump of 13.19 meters (43' 3.25")! Adrian Friedman placed ninth with a jump of 12.18 meters (39' 11.5") and Isaias Wooden placed 15th with a personal best jump of 11.71 meters (38' 5")!

High Jump

In the Men's High Jump, Cam Heafitz placed third, clearing 1.96 meters (6' 5")!

3,000

The 3,000 was the final individual event of the day, and for all three women who competed in the event, it was their first time running the event. Bella Lozier competed well and closed hard to place sixth in a time of 10:39! Daphne Theiler ran a strong race and placed eighth in a time of 10:45! Emma Vatnsdal competed hard and finished in a time of 11:13.

In the Men's 3,000, Stan Craig had a great race. Stan gradually moved his way up through the deep field and ran a speedy last lap to place eighth in a time of 8:37! George Cahill placed 13th in a time of 8:44. Running in a different heat, Drew Stephens placed fourth in his heat in a season best time of 8:45! In the same heat, Thomas Stephens, Sam Young, Harrison Talcott and Ian Dopp placed 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th in times of 9:07, 9:08, 9:09 and 9:17, respectively. For Ian, it was his first 3,000 race!

Distance Medley Relay

The Distance Medley Relay was the penultimate race of the day, and the Men won the Distance Medley Relay! Parker led off for the Mammoths on the 1200 leg and used a strong kick with one lap left of his leg to give the Mammoths a two second lead as he handed the baton to Kolya Markov-Riss. Kolya got out hard on the 400 leg and ran strong on the second lap to extend the Mammoths lead to 3 seconds as he passed the baton to Will Nagy for the 800 leg! Will ran a great 800 leg, running a strong race without any competition near him, extending the lead to six seconds as he passed the baton to Henry Dennen for the anchor leg! Henry, coming back for a second race after racing the 5,000 earlier in the meet, ran the 1600 leg of the relay and ran tough while running solo. Henry brought the Mammoths across the finish line in first place in a time of 10:20!

In the Women's Distance Medley Relay, Piper Lentz led off for the Mammoths, and used a strong last lap to put the Mammoths in third place as she handed off to Margo Pedersen for the 400 leg! Margo ran hard for two laps and handed the baton to Zoë Marcus for the 800 leg. Zoë ran a great leg, getting out hard and moving the team into third place. Julia Schor ran a strong 1600 leg after her fantastic race in the Mile earlier in the day, holding the Mammoths position and bringing them across the finish line in third place in a time of 12:29!

4x400 Relay

The 4x400 Relay was the final event of the day. The Women put three teams on the starting line.

Mads Rabb led off for the "A" team and ran a strong leg, pulling even for second place as she handed the baton to Camilla Lash. Camilla ran hard on the second leg and passed the baton to Eliza Cardwell, who ran a speedy leg in her third event of the day after winning the long jump and 60 hurdles! Eliza handed the baton to Casie Eifrig, who ran a strong anchor leg in her second race of the day after setting the School Record in the 400! Casie brought the Mammoths across the finish line in a time of 4:08!

In a different heat of the 4x400, Paige Clark led off for the Mammoths "B" team and put the team in first place! Paige passed the baton to Halle Hanna, who got out hard and ran strong, holding the Mammoths position in first place! Halle passed the baton to Chanelle Jaeger, who ran a strong leg without any competition around her. Chanelle was the final runner of the relay, as the plan was to only run three legs of the relay. The Mammoth "C" team was next, and Ava Zielinski led off, and ran a strong leg and passed the baton to Emma Vatnsdal, coming off the 3,000 meter race not long before, for the second leg. Emma ran tough and passed the baton to Piper Lentz. Piper, in her third event of the day, ran a speedy leg and maintained the Mammoths position in third place! Piper passed the baton to Bella Lozier, who had also recently run the 3,000, for the anchor leg. Bella ran hard and brought the Mammoths across the finish line in a time of 4:15.

In the Men's 4x400, Tom Ye led off for the Mammoths and ran a strong leg to put the Mammoths in second place! Tom handed the baton to Gent Malushaga, who ran a strong leg to keep the Mammoths in the mix! Gent passed the baton to Ian Dopp and Ian got out hard and ran a fantastic leg to pull even with the second place team as he passed the baton to Ben Davis for the anchor leg. Ben ran a fantastic anchor leg, getting the Mammoths solidly in touch with the race leader in the first lap of the race. Ben then blew by the race leader to seize the lead to help the Mammoths win the heat in a time of 3:28!

The Mammoths enjoyed a strong day at the meet and the team's energy was great! We are so grateful for all of the family, friends and alumni who came to support the team!

NEXT UP for the Mammoths is the Cupid Challenge which will be hosted by Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. The meet will begin on Friday, February 2nd at 4 PM with the first day of the Heptathlon and all of the Pentathlon. The meet will continue on Saturday, February 3rd with the second day of the heptathlon and all of the track and field events, with action kicking off at 9 AM.
