PRINCIPAL’S COLUMN
ANZAC Day
Once again it was tremendous to see our students playing an integral role during the Kingscliff Dawn Ceremony and the Pottsville Morning Ceremony on ANZAC Day. At Kingscliff, Bronte Rylance delivered the keynote speech, while Beatrice Spaulding provided the Prologue and Jimmy Harry acknowledged Country. Maizy Toole sung the national anthem. At Pottsville, Archie Shipley delivered the keynote speech and Holly Newman sung the national anthem.
Thanks also to our staff who provided support in varying forms: Mr Walker, Mrs Levi, Ms Connor, Mrs Broad and Mrs Rodenberg.
Staff Development Days
The term began with two Staff Development Days. The focus for the first day was High Potential and Gifted Student Education (HPGE). Many thanks to Mrs O’Keeffe and our HPGE team for their coordination. Our second day focused on understanding behaviour and the importance of building positive relationships within schools so that, in the event of inappropriate student behaviour, our response as a school community best meets the needs of all involved. Many thanks to our three Deputy Principals, Mr Matthias, Mrs Rosser and Mr Borg, for their leadership on this.
Canteen Update
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate the ongoing canteen situation. While our school has identified a long-term canteen provider, the final arrangements are still being negotiated at the Department of Education level, which has taken longer than expected.
We want to assure our community that this delay is beyond the school’s control, and we are actively following up with the Department, including exploring options for an interim solution.
As soon as we receive any updates, we will communicate them with you promptly. We remain hopeful that a canteen service will be in place soon and appreciate your continued support.
Pinnacle 2026 Applications
These have been open since last Wednesday and will close Wednesday 30 May. Details of the application process can be found at https://kingscliff-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment/pinnacleprogram.html
Rugby League
Commiserations to our Opens University Sheild Team who went down to Tweed River High School last Thursday in a game which featured consistent high quality ball movement from both sides. Alternately, congratulations to our U14 Buckley Shield Team who defeated Ballina Coast High School later that day. Their next opponent will be Tweed River High School – a chance for retribution.
AFL
Congratulations to Jack Harvey, Sam Ella, Kai Robinson and Will France who were part of the U15 Noth Coast AFL Team, which came third overall in the NSW State Championship in Sydney last Friday. This is the best ever result for a North Coast AFL team.
Uniform
With the approach of cooler weather, students are reminded that school jumpers and jackets are available from our uniform shop and are part of our uniform. Plain, dark coloured sloppy joes can be worn under school shirts as an alternative. With the exception of official school sports representative jumpers, hoodies are not an acceptable option.
Wishing all of our school community a great week.

Attention: Parents/Carers and Students
Trespassing Incident - Kings Forest Estate
We have been contacted by a member of our community regarding a serious matter involving some Kingscliff High School students trespassing on the Kings Forest Estate.
This concern has already been addressed with students during recent school assemblies. We reminded all students that:
- Kingscliff Police Station has been notified and will be increasing patrols in the area;
- Security personnel will now be on site 24/7, including dog patrols; and
- Vandal-resistant fencing will be installed shortly to secure the area.
A reminder about safe travel practices
E-bike safety is essential – Reckless riding can endanger both the rider and others. Students found to be using e-bikes in an unsafe manner may face consequences including suspension of their privilege to ride to school.
Wednesday Sports Day - Additionally, we would like to remind you of our policy regarding bike use on Wednesdays (sport day). E-bikes and pushbikes must not be ridden to or from off-site sports activities on Wednesdays. Students who ride their bikes to school on Wednesdays are expected to return and collect them from school at the end of the day. This ensures the safety and coordination of all students during sporting activities.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue and we appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our students and community safe.
Lithium-Ion Battery Safety
Lithium-ion batteries are the fastest growing fire risk in New South Wales. Fire and Rescue NSW wants members of the NSW community to understand the risks and be prepared if things go wrong.
Preparation is Key:
● Ensure functioning smoke alarms where batteries are charged or stored.
● Charge batteries on non-flammable surfaces like concrete floors, avoiding beds or sofas.
● Large batteries should only be charged in well-ventilated areas like garages or sheds.
Charging Caution:
● Never charge batteries unattended or when sleeping.
● Disconnect devices once fully charged.
● Avoid using and charging devices on flammable surfaces or if damaged.
Charging Essentials:
● Use only approved chargers with the Australian Regulatory Compliance Mark.
● Beware of compatibility issues with chargers.
Safe Disposal:
● Never dispose of damaged batteries in regular waste bins.
● Use designated battery recycling drop-off points.
● Warning Signs:
● Dispose of damaged batteries promptly to mitigate fire risks.
