They Wont Be Here Forever By Diego Lembo

About the Author

Diego Lembo

Hello, my name is Diego Lembo. I created this to raise awareness about the cherished species that inhabit my beautiful home state of California. As a native Californian, I truly appreciate the incredible diversity of life that exists here, from the majestic redwoods of the coast to the vibrant deserts and everything in between.

Through my work, I hope to inspire others to take a closer look at the unique landscapes and the wonderful creatures that call California home. Together, we can foster a greater understanding and appreciation for our natural environment, and ultimately, protect the precious ecosystems that sustain us all. Join me in celebrating the beauty and richness of California’s wildlife!

The Process

When starting, I had several key questions to address: What would the project look like? What would be the specific subject matter? What would the title be? And what key elements would I incorporate? Given the focus on California's endangered species, I decided to create an informative brochure. The idea was to provide someone unfamiliar with California a resource to learn about some of our species facing extinction.

Now, I think the most challenging part of the project was deciding which animals to feature. Ultimately, I chose three: the California mountain lion, the gray wolf, and one that's particularly meaningful to me because they live near where I live, the California condor. I decided to title the project “They Won't Be Here Forever” to emphasize the urgency of the situation.

I chose these specific animals because I feel they are the most significant to California. I chose the California Condor because this large bird was almost extinct, but is now recovering thanks to conservation efforts. This helps because. In the 1980s, there were only 27 left, but now there are over 500 because of habitat protection and breeding programs. They also help with eating dead and decomposed animals and pretty much become natural scavengers and help clean the environment from dead and decomposed animals. Helping to also prevent any disease that the animal may have due to their strong stomachs that can withstand disease preventing it from spreading to the human world . Overall these birds are a major part

The Gray wolf once lived all over California, but disappeared by the early 1900s because of hunting and losing their homes. Their return is helping nature recover. Wolves also help keep other animal populations in check, which is good for plants and the whole ecosystem.

Lasty, I chose to represent the mountain lion. As a top predator, the mountain lion is important for keeping California systems healthy by controlling deer numbers. Reducing food sources for mountain lions disrupts the food chain which results too much grazing,
