Fireworks Night!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support our annual fireworks night. It was a fantastic evening. Special thanks to Ginny Mussell and Kate Hinksman for all their hard work in coordinating the event.

The Jolly Postman has been to Prep 1

The Prep 1 role-play area has been transformed into a Post Office, to accompany our new topic 'The Jolly Postman.' The children have been busy writing letters, designing stamps, weighing parcels and Addressing envelopes. They have also been learning about the role of a post officer and exploring and designing their own aerial maps to plot postal routes.

Newspaper club

Thursday afternoons are busy and productive in Newspaper Club. A small but dedicated team of budding journalists, reporters and illustrators have been working seamlessly as a team to write, draw and create the very first edition of ‘Hatherop Times’. Drawn from a variety of year groups in the Prep school the group have been fantastic at collaborating and supporting each other as they have worked to publish their newspaper each half term. They are currently working on a Christmas themed edition for you all to enjoy during the festive season.

Autumnal fun in Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten children have had the most wonderful time learning poems about the cheek squirrel and hunting for acorns amongst the leaves this week. A truly magical time being had by all in the Nursery.

Diwali Festival Fun in Prep 6

Prep 6 have been researching and learning all about Sikhism as part of their TPE lessons this term. They have been intrigued to learn about key Sikh beliefs, Gurus as well as learning about the Sikh holy book. This week, our work has focused on the festival of Diwali during which Sikhs celebrate the sixth guru Hargobind Singh. As well as learning about the story of Rama and Sita Prep 6 have experienced some of the traditions of the festival. They have created their own Rangoli patterns, acted out the story of Rama and Sita as well as taste testing coconut and rose ladoo. Lots of oohs and aahs followed the tasting with requests for the recipe to try themselves at home.

"I liked making the star wheel as I love learning about constellations"

Prep 5 set off excitedly for a morning of adventure at Westonbirt Senior School on Monday 6th November. Taking part in a carousel of activities Prep 5 spent the morning learning more about Earth and Space. Visiting the large Science laboratories, they made a star wheel to enable them to search the night sky to locate different constellations at different times of the year. We took part in an experiment to discover how to measure the diameter of craters created by meteors falling from different heights.

I liked the Planetarium dome because they told us so many amazing facts and I loved it when they made the stars spin faster to show that the North star doesn’t move.

We also discovered that careers in space are within our grasp by learning about different jobs and qualifications we might need. The highlight of the morning was each groups turn in the Planetarium Dome where we had to crawl into a darkened dome and were taken on a fantastical journey through space and time. Minds were repeatedly blown by the incredible facts and images we explored throughout the morning.

I loved the crater experiment when we dropped marbles into the sand. I liked discovering how the different height we dropped the marble from made it go into the sand further.
