THE HOME OF SCHOLAR-ATHLETES The North Coast Athletic Conference - an NCAA DIII charter member

The NCAC is the Home of Scholar-Athletes, and that’s something we don’t take lightly. More than 40 years ago, a group of like-minded institutions got together and decided that some things had to change in college athletics, and we were the ones who were going to do it.

This alliance wasn’t formed to negotiate a new television contract. It wasn’t about increasing attendance and revenue, and it wasn’t about promoting one or two sports over the rest. This alliance was about OPPORTUNITY and giving scholar-athletes a life-changing four-year experience.

Sound a little idealistic and far-fetched for the 21st century?

We assure you it’s not.

The North Coast ranks in the top-3 in NCAA Division III with 72 team National Championships.

But did you know the North Coast also boasts 222 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, ranking them among the nation's leaders in the prestigious category?

This model, which was based on inclusion while boldly proclaiming that women’s sports were equal to men’s sports, has become the norm. But that doesn’t stop us from knowing that we did it first and still do it best.

The nine highly selective liberal arts colleges and universities that make up the North Coast are unique in their own ways. But the beautiful thing about our successful partnership is that they share common beliefs that are not clouded by finances or pecking orders.

Our “Why?” is not For the Love of the Game, but rather For the Love of our Students.

For more than 40 years, the North Coast has been a trailblazer in college athletics.

When we compete, we play to win, and we’ve done plenty of that over the years to the tune of 72 NCAA Division III national championships and 710 DIII national individual champions. We’re very proud of those numbers, but they're not what we hang our hat on.

We celebrate when hundreds of NCAC scholar-athletes walk across their respective stages and accept their degrees annually. We celebrate when our graduates build careers, start families and positively impact their communities.

Denison, DePauw, Hiram, Kenyon, Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan, Wabash, Wittenberg, and Wooster (and Allegheny, Earlham, Transylvania and Washington & Jefferson field hockey, too!) are the colleges that our scholar-athletes call home.

These are special places.

Private, liberal arts colleges that promote autonomous thinking and individual growth.

We're willing to bet that YOU could find your second home at one of our institutions. Join our #NCACFamily.
