Museum Description

I have chosen the theme of Family History. I decided to choose Family History because family is the most important thing for me and explaining my story to other will help people understand how all families are different. I will make sure to add my family experiences and personal life to this personal project. My story and my experiences will reflect me through my point of view.

Impact Statement

I want my personal project to impact by telling my story. Maybe people will be able to relate or maybe they'll understand that all families are different which is ok as long as its healthy. i want my visitors to experience my story from my eyes through art. I want them to feel touched and intrigued. I also want them to experience me through the art I choose. But I also want them to relate in a way which I understand that not everyone will.

Room 1: My First Memories

My beginning will describe my first memories as a kid ages 1 - 9 and what I remember about it along with memories through my eyes

CRANACH, Lucas the Elder Young Mother with Child 1520

I choose this art piece because I was the first born and my mom had me when she was 19 the title of the art piece contains young mother with child which describes my beginnings with me and my mom. It doesn't show the dad which I appreciate because my biological father was never around making me appreciate the art piece even more because I can relate to it.

Content- This artwork is about a loving mother. The message to me is protection because we can see how the mother is loving caring and protecting the child.

Florence, Galleria Palatina (Palazzo Pitti) on canvas, 1770

This image represents me and my sister we're 1 year apart which makes people think that we're twins. Me and her have the same dad and for a while it was just me, my sister and mom due to my dad having a mistress

Form- I feel like the artist intentionally created and organized the colors so both of them can be equal. For example she used pink and green so both of them would have a chance to stand out .

GOLTZIUS, Hendrick Virgin and Child with Angels, 1607

I chose this art piece because it reminds me of my sisters with my mom growing up it was just us four. The angels also has meaning to me because growing up my mom would tell us that our guardian angels ar looking out for us from the sky and the image shows that.

Interpretation- The image shows how the angels are looking out for the mothers and kids. I can tell because the angels are in the top looking down at the kids and mother.

AMERLING, Friedrich von Rudolf von Arthaber with his Children

This art piece reminds me and describes my relationship with my dad which happens to be my step dad who actually raised me. The kids look so at peace with their father which was me and my siblings with ours everything was just peace when we were with our dad. One of us was always on his lap if not all of us if we fit. This explains the bond that I had with my father when I was a child.

Form- The image has a yellow hue to it. I'm not sure if the artist meant to do it but all the colors match the yellow hue to it.

Room #2 My Childhood

This room will explain my childhood ages 10-15 it will consist of my memories through my eyes regarding me and my close family and the struggles we went through

Oswaldo Guayasamín, The Workers, 1942

Till this day my stepdad is my dad. I've always said that a father is not a man who gives you life but a man who guides you through life and teaches you the good and bad. This image shows my stepfather who always worked hard for me my two sisters and mom.

Context- Oswaldo was often influenced on themes that had to do with human suffering or social injustice whiting the indigenous people. The art represents that a group of indigenous workers working hard.

Amedeo Modigliani Italian, 1884–1920

This image shows a serious couple. Which growing up my parents were very serious I always felt like my parents had opposite roles. My mom acted like my dad should've and my dad acted like my mom should've acted. My mother has always been dry with us unlike my dad he always very affectionate.

Form- In the image we can see that the faces are made with organic shapes meaning the artist didn't perfect them instead he went with the flow we can see that in the mans face because it's not a perfect circle instead it looks hand drawn which means the artist used organic lines.

Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, 1595-1605

A happy couple is all I wanted my parents to be instead all I witnessed was them screaming at eachother. But I always wondered how my childhood would've been if my parents would've just tried and be happy for themselves and for their 3 girls. This image shows what I would've wanted my parents to be which was to simply happy with each other.

Form- The image has a hue to it the light happens to be a warm color in between green and yellow. Which gives the appearance of a older piece. It could've been intentional to place the light that way.

Vincent Van Gogh, The Poet's Garden, (Dutch, 1853–1890)

This garden is a symbol of peace. After my parents officially separated during COVID my dad had to leave the house. I only have a few memories of my dad at home and most of them consist of screaming and fighting with my mother. So when he moved out he lived in a beautiful ranch and had us stay with him through most of the pandemic. It was a new beginning not only for us but for him. Although he's our step dad he still took care of us. The time we spent with him was nothing but peaceful and that's why this image means peace and new beginnings because the ranch were my dad lived at was exactly that.

Context- Van Gogh often got inspirations for his paintings. he either painted what he saw or he painted personal experiences. With this particular piece he got inspired by a nearby garden in Arles were he would often go to feel at peace and write his brother.

Room #3 My Present

This 3rd and final room will explain my present age 15 till now I will explain my memories and stories about my family and I through my eyes and experiences.

PERRY, Lilla Cabot, Open Air Concert, 1890

After my parents separated it was always me and my 2 sisters we were always together. Most of the time is was us 3 my dad didn't live with us and my mom was starting to date. I often felt like she didn't care about us because she wouldn't spend time with us anymore. I also felt selfish because I couldn't stop my mom from finding the love that she deserved and craved. I just wished she would've given us the same attention as she gave her boyfriend.

Form- The image give portrays a soft look in the image due to the seamless brush strokes. It gives the image a sense of blurring. We can also tell that the three girls are the focal point because of the dress colors and because the background is green.

Edvard Munch, The Girl by the Window, 1893

I felt alone I started arguing with my mom a lot. I started telling her things that maybe I shouldn't but at the time is how I felt. She didn't understand that I just wanted her to be around like my dad was around. I just always craved her attention because I never got it none of my sisters got it. So this image represents me and the loneliness I felt.

Content- I believe the story behind the image is loneliness. Due to the point that a girl is by the window lonely and with her head down.

Georges Rouault, Mother and Child, 1923

At times me and my mother got along so well like I always wished. But right when we were starting to bond again she would snap right back to her old self. Since I'm the oldest I felt the need to defend my little sisters when my mom would get them in trouble without a reason. None of my sisters have a good relationship with her but I always try because at the end of the day she's my mother and I love her. This image describes my mother and I when we are in good terms.

Interpretation- The image interprets a mother and a daughter admiring and showing their love. We can see that because both of them are looking at each other and smiling while also hugging each other or leaning in to hug each other.

Don Freeman, Family Circle, 1937

This image represents what I want and desire for my family to come to peace. My family is far from perfect but I know this can be us because I remember the past and think about how we were all happy once upon a time. So I know it's possible. This image describes what we could be and what we will be in the future.

Form- The image has very noticeable light and shadows I feel like it's easier to catch on due to the image only having white and black.

Exit Label

I hope that you enjoyed my family history. If you related to it I hope you know that it will be okay and if you didn't well that's also fine families are different. My family is not perfect but I wanted to show my realistic family instead of sugar coating it. The history I explained came from my experiences and from my point of view. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you!
