WElCOME to Parent Support night!

WHere are we going tonight?

  • Introductions
  • Perks of the new space!
  • Online calendar & parent hub
  • Academic overview by class
  • Tech philosophy
  • Delta Agreements
Our daily schedule, at a glance
We have traveled so far already in our Geography unit! (Ba-Da-Bum!)

Let's Explore Theme!

First of all, Mr. Steve's theme pictures Never Disappoint!

  • Mapping skills
  • Identifying and analyzing sources
  • Study Skills (note taking, time management, etc)
  • Executive functioning
  • Scientific inquiry
  • Modeling and applying concepts and scientific procedures
2025-2026 Theme Units

Let's Talk P&P

  • Changes in theme P&P (pedagogy, rationale and benefits) compared to last year's quarterly at-home projects
  • Gives kids a chance to "preview" content so they can dive deep together during independent and small-group creation activities in class (Gives them much needed time to let new info settle in so we can build on it together in class!)
  • Deltas are learning important study skills and executive function skills as we make theme interactive notebook a more organized, useable resource to revisit learning
  • In the words of our Delta Agreement: friendly flexibility flies farther! We're all adjusting to the new NEW! We're flexible so don't be afraid to send us a note when you need to "call it" for your child!

Let's give them time to try without letting work get too overwhelming. It's a dance, indeed! We'll get there together. ❤️

Our new "big boards" are AMAZING!

WHippermathers Update

  • I'm super excited to return to the 6th grade TEKs!
  • Fact fluency is up there in my goals for these kids! (Hence a very well-loved new and improved multiples chart!)
  • New and improved math notebook system
  • New format of online support for tutorials and to access student notes

Tech Talk

We'll be teaching digital citizenship explicitly and interwoven into all lessons that incorporate digital tools
When we are using tech, it will be to enhance our creativity and ability to share ideas! (Fear not it's use as a nifty bell and whistle!)

Please sign and return your Tech Agreement if you haven't done so already!

In the News in Language ARts

  • Continued novel study and weekly class discussions
  • Writing informational 5 paragraph essays
  • Making pinch pots in early October!
  • Continuing to work on sustained writing time and handwriting
  • They're doing great!

Delta Agreements

  • Keep it clean (and pristine!) as a TEAM!
  • Accept the QUEST to do your BEST!
  • Reflect BEFORE you deflect!
  • Friendly flexibility flies FARTHER!
  • Don't waddle through the tulips when the house is on fire! (Thank you, Ms. Ansley!)

Ways We Hope to Help Them GROW!

  • Many opportunities for self-reflection and cooperative learning explicit practice (woven in to lessons and during FLEX time!)
  • Encouraging more administrative tasks to come straight from the students (ie, send teachers an email when requesting support vs. parent-led inquiry)
