Headteacher's Message

Mr A Moloney

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope that you and your families have had a restful summer break?

We started the new academic year on Monday this week, with a staff INSET day. It was an excellent start to the autumn term with staff getting back to their planning and an opportunity to remind all our staff of the standards and expectations we set as a school to help prepare for our pupils’ return.

It has been lovely to welcome back the children and young people of our School after the summer break. It was great to welcome all, but particularly our 16 new pupils into school, who have now successfully begun their school journeys at SJV; they have all made an excellent impression upon us already and seem a great ‘fit’ for our school. My assemblies at the start of term focused on us all being better versions of ourselves and how we can improve in our school lives this year.

The new school building project has further progressed and will continue to impact on our day to day activities in school. I am however, confident our pupils will embrace these challenges, with us, to ensure everyone on the school site is safe and able to receive an excellent educational experience; we will keep you informed of changes and developments on the way.

We have continued to ask parents to support us in ensuring pupils are in the correct school uniform and that they were prepared well for each school day. It was really visible on Tuesday morning, when the pupils arrived, that you had supported us in this - thank you. The children have again all been given a free uniform and PE kit this year, which will help us in continuing to raise our standards in school. The pupils looked so smart all through the week!

We have a some events planned for late September/ early October which we would like you to contribute to. These include;

  • Coffee Afternoon in the school dining hall, in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. Friday 27th September at 1.30pm.
  • Open Afternoon planned for prospective parents to attend. This will take place on Weds 2nd October for parents of pupils looking for a school place for next September. If you know any parents who are looking for school places next year (e.g. Year 6 pupils) please do let them know.
  • Welcome Evening in School for all parents on Thursday 3rd October; starting at 4pm and finishing at 6pm; an opportunity for all our parents to come into school and meet with their child’s class team to discuss the start to the school year that your child has had and for us to share our expectations with you.

Please place these dates in your diaries and I will provide further details to you over the forthcoming weeks.

The weekly newsletter is a fantastic way of keeping up to date about events in School, but also seeing what amazing activities the school provides for its learners. We send it home weekly through our email system and also post it on our Website and Twitter feed, where daily activities are also ‘tweeted’ about. Please look to follow us on Twitter @StJohnVianneySc

I look forward to meeting you in the forthcoming weeks and should you have any concerns about your child in School please do not hesitate to contact the School office.

Very best wishes to you and your families for the weekend.

Highlights of the Week

Our Catholic School

Welcome back , - lots of exciting times ahead including big changes at SJV; we will be in the first part of our new build during this academic year! How exciting, I can’t wait 😊!

Within SJV this week we are focussing on the qualities we want to see in SJV so our spiritual focus is:

‘The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no Law’.

- Galatians 5:22

It’s wonderful to be back at SJV again and see everyone and hear all the exciting news that has happened to us as a school community over summer. Welcome to our returning students and their families and all those who have joined us for the first time. To those students and staff for whose Summer has been a challenge, we will be there for you with as much help and support is needed as part of our welcoming faith community.

Within RE this week we have been getting to know each other and all the new classes focussing on who they are and why they are a child of God. We have introduced Key Stage four and five to their new examination course, in RE, for which they can gain a qualification. I am looking forward to another challenging and fun year at SJV and I know there are so many lovely times to come.

Poetry Corner

Welcome back to the first Poetry Corner of the school year. We are so excited here at SJV for the term ahead, including our National Poetry Day celebrations, and the official launch of our stunning School Poetry Anthology ‘Salute The Sun’.

It’s been a joy and a pleasure to welcome so many new pupils to SJV this week, below is a poem of welcome and inspiration by the acclaimed Manchester Poet Tony Walsh that we think really captures the ‘New Beginnings’ our young learners are experiencing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
