Big Picture Showcase and Graduation

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the students and parents who participated in and attended our end of year Big Picture Showcase. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to proudly present their learning journeys from throughout the year and share their exciting plans for the year ahead. The evening concluded with a special graduation ceremony honouring our Year 12 students as they prepare to embark on their next chapter. Many thanks to Big Picture team - Kim Rodenburg, Zac Spring, Ross Keevers, Will Spry, Karen Goode and Grace Lehfeldt for their exceptional coordination in making this event such a memorable success.

Social Media Age Restrictions

From 10 December 2025, many social media platforms will be required to prevent Australians under 16 from creating or maintaining accounts on certain age-restricted services. The changes aim to protect children from pressures and risks they can be exposed to while logged in to social media accounts. The eSafety Commissioner is leading the implementation of the law. They are responsible for identifying platforms and supporting the community with information and resources. Under 16s will still be able to see publicly available social media content that does not require logging into an account. There are no penalties for young people who use age-restricted platforms or for their parents and carers as the responsibility is with the platforms. We encourage you to access eSafety’s resources and support for families on their website and register for one of the upcoming webinars for parents and carers.

Year 5 Taster Day

We were delighted to host over 230 Year 5 students from eight local primary schools for our recent Taster Day, giving them an exciting glimpse into life at Kingscliff High School. The students participated in a variety of engaging activities across Science, Technology, Sports Excellence, Maths, English and STEM, experiencing firsthand the vibrant learning opportunities our school offers. Many thanks to our dedicated staff for their enthusiastic delivery, to Mr Reid for his outstanding coordination and to our partner CLC primary schools for their invaluable support in making this event such a success.

Year 6 Orientation Day

We warmly welcome our current Year 6 students, who will join us as Year 7 students next year, to the Year 6 Orientation Day on Tuesday 2 December. This important day is designed to ensure a smooth and confident transition by helping students become familiar with high school routines, expectations, and available support systems. It also provides valuable opportunities to build peer connections, boost confidence, and reinforce our school’s welcoming culture of belonging and safety.

Schools Spectacular

We wish great luck to our students and staff who will be participating in this year’s Schools Spectacular, a prestigious cultural event that brings together talented young performers from across NSW Public Schools. This world-class production, held in Sydney, offers our students a unique opportunity to showcase their skills alongside thousands of peers in a celebration of music, dance, and community spirit. Our involvement not only highlights the incredible talents within our school but also allows our students to be part of an inclusive and inspiring event that promotes creativity and connection. We wish all our representatives the very best as they prepare to take part in this remarkable experience, proudly supported by the NSW Department of Education.

Clouded Minds Vape Education Program

Kingscliff High School is running the Clouded Minds Vape Education program to raise awareness about the harms of vaping. Vapes often contain nicotine, which can lead to quick addiction, especially among young people. It is important to talk openly with your child about the risks, as vaping is not safe despite some misconceptions. Research shows that one in five young people have tried vaping, often using devices that look like everyday items. Signs of vaping may include irritability or anxiety linked to nicotine addiction. Starting a relaxed conversation and letting your child know support is available are key steps in helping them quit. Setting a positive example by being vape- and tobacco-free also makes a difference. More resources to help parents can be found here https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/tobacco/pages/vaping-resources.aspx#guardians

Attendance Matters

We are committed to supporting families in ensuring students attend school regularly and to removing any barriers that may arise. Under the NSW Education Act, all student absences must be explained within seven days. Please notify us promptly if your child is absent and provide a reason, so we can offer the right support and accurately record attendance. If absences are repeated or unexplained, we will follow up to provide additional assistance. Regular attendance is vital for learning, building social connections, and overall wellbeing. We understand challenges may occur, and our staff are here to help. If you have any questions or need support, please contact your child’s Year Adviser.

We are incredibly proud to announce the outstanding success of our students at the recent T5 Mathematics Olympics! Eight of our brightest students were selected to represent Kingscliff High School, competing against Murwillumbah High and Banora Point High in a day of intensive mathematical challenges. Working in two dedicated teams of four, our students tackled four challenging activities that tested their collaboration, problem-solving skills, and mathematical knowledge. 🌟 A Clean Sweep! 🌟 We are thrilled to report that our two Kingscliff High School teams achieved the FIRST and SECOND places overall! This incredible result is a testament to their hard work, teamwork, and the dedication of our Mathematics faculty. Please join us in congratulating these brilliant young mathematicians!

Year 12 Visual Arts

On Tuesday 25 November Year 12 Visual Arts joined forces with students from our 5 Tweed High Schools and took over the Tweed Regional gallery for the day. Students worked collaboratively with their local area peers as part of the annual T5 Kickstarter day; a hands-on day to dive deeper into the HSC Visual Arts course, live artworks and development of the Body Of Work. Students also got to hear candid advice from local, nationally recognised professional artist Meg Stoios about her journey from school student to professional artist. The day was again a huge success, providing a unique opportunity for our Year 12 Visual Arts students which is not done anywhere else in the state.

A massive thanks to the Tweed Regionally Gallery and all our local high schools.

School Attendance

As we head into the end of the school year, it remains important that your child attends school every single day. School is the best place for students to learn as well as to build social connections and life-long skills.

“Popular” can look impressive on the outside, but “well-liked” can create a longer lasting sense of confidence on the inside. Popularity can change overnight: trends, group dynamics and moods. Being well-liked lasts longer because it’s built on empathy, honesty, and how we treat each other. One is about being seen; the other is about being valued. Celebrating Success - 'Year 12 Big Picture Inaugural Graduation'

On Thursday 27 November we celebrated the success of our year 12 Big Picture students. The class of 2025 were presented with their International Big Picture Learning Credentials and were recognised for their growth and achievement. Our Big Picture students Archie Shipley (2025 School Captain) and Bronte Rylance (2025 Vice School Captain) both cut the graduation cake, along with Jessie Mills producing a farewell video and Lily Evetts presenting our valedictorian speech. Thank you to Kim Rodenburg, Year 12 Advisor and the Big Picture Faculty for organising a very heartfelt and memorable evening for both the students and their parents. Our students are now heading out into the real world with confidence and determination to achieve their goals. Three of our students will be heading to university to study Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Science and Nursing. Some of our students have already completed Certificate III qualifications in business services, apparel and textiles, early childhood education and care or they are continuing on with their studies at TAFE next year in School Based Education Support and Electrotechnology. While other students are seeking traineeships, apprenticeships and/or employment in the Aviation Industry, Tattooing and Piercing, and Animal Care. One of our students is travelling to New Zealand in the January holidays, working alongside one of their mentors to continue advocating and celebrating their culture. Along with following their interests and passions, our students are also considering overseas travel to broaden their perspectives of the world. We wish our year 12 Big Picture students all the very best in their endeavours and know they will be a part of our alumni for many years to come. If anyone would like to reach out to our Alumni for potential employment opportunities, work experience, volunteering or to speak to younger students about their learning, please contact us via email kingscliff-h.BigPicture@det.nsw.edu.au and we will put you in touch.
