What's On? Week 1 | Term 2 - 2025 | Mullumbimby High School Newsletter

Message from our Principal

Welcome back to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2, we hope everyone had a relaxing break and are ready to continue with their learning journey. It was fantastic to see the excited faces of our students come through the gate this morning.

Our students represented the school admirably last week at the community ANZAC ceremonies across the region. Despite a last-minute downpour at the Mullumbimby commemoration, our students were fantastic representatives with our School Captains Monet and Solomon presenting a poem during the service.

ANZAC Day School Assembly

We will be holding our ANZAC assembly at school on Monday 5 May in Week 2. The assembly is a formal assembly which will go from 10.30am to 11.00am. Parents and community members are welcome to attend.

Congratulations to our Chess Club

Congratulations to our talented chess team for a fantastic win in Round 1 of the statewide competition against long-time rivals, Shearwater School. Our four-player team — Luke B, Gabe F, Zac J and Keanu C — showed outstanding focus, strategy, and teamwork throughout the match. Each game was a close contest, but our students kept their cool under pressure and secured a well-deserved victory. This win sets a strong tone for the rest of the competition, and we’re proud of their sportsmanship and determination. Thank you to Mr Culbert for coaching this great team. Best of luck for the next round!

Thank you Mr Armstrong

It was with great respect that at the end of last term we farewelled Mr. Greg Armstrong our Principal. Mr Armstrong has been a highly respected member of our school and leader within the department of education for over 30 years. Many fond memories were shared of his time at MHS. We wish Mr. Armstrong all the very best for his retirement which begins at the end of this term.

With Mr. Armstrong's retirement, I am honoured to have been transferred to the Mullumbimby High School Principal position on a permanent basis from the start of term 3 and will continue to relieve in the position until that time. I am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing excellence that we strive for here at Mullumbimby for the long term and seeing a couple of generations thrive at our school.

NSW Fire and Rescue Preparations

Are you ready for winter? Cooler weather is just around the corner, so this is a great opportunity to catch up with your local NSW Fire and Rescue firefighters and learn all about keeping your family fire safe this winter. We would like to educate your family and the community about fire prevention and safety. Our key message this year is around home fire safety, encouraging everyone to consider and take ownership of the fire dangers in our homes. Fire and Rescue NSW will be hosting its annual Open Day on Saturday 10 May 2025 between 10:00am and 2:00pm. This will give you an opportunity to engage with your local Fire and Rescue NSW station.

You and your family are invited to head down to your local fire station for home fire safety tips, activities, and demonstrations. You will also have the opportunity to chat with firefighters to learn more about their everyday role and type of fires and rescue emergencies they attend. For more information on your local station, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/openday and follow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/frnsw. Make sure you mark it in your diary and come and join us!
