Certificate Track (15 credit hours): Successful completion of FL107 Beginning Spanish I, FL108 Beginning Spanish II, and FL201 Intermediate Spanish.*
*Students with prior Spanish experience, e.g. heritage speakers, Seal of Biliteracy recipients, may place directly into FL201, receiving 15 credit hours total in retroactive credit upon completion of only FL201.
Advanced Certificate Track (11 credit hours): Successful completion of FL201 Intermediate Spanish, FL202 Spanish Readings and FL205 Conversational Spanish
Retroactive Credit applies toward the completion of the Certificate!
How do I get started?
- Complete the free sign-up form (must be a current student at Butler CC or have applied to Butler in the last 2 years. Apply to Butler for free: https://www.butlercc.edu/apply)
- Complete the required courses and/or retroactive credit equivalent
- Apply for the certificate and watch out for emails about scheduling your proficiency exam. The exams are held each spring semester and may be completed in person or remotely.
Why should I apply for the Certificate?
- Specific and Measurable Language Skills: After completing the Certificate Track, you can list your language skills with confidence on a resume and be specific about your proficiency level and what you can do in the language.
- Highlight What Sets YOU Apart: Proficiency in more than one language supports intercultural competence, increased cognitive development and abilities, sharpened problem-solving skills, and better reading abilities.
- Set Yourself Up for Success: Whether you are a Foreign Language major at Butler, or you are transferring Butler courses to another school, completing the certificate will put you on track toward graduation, or even a minor in Spanish at your transfer university!
