Character
This week students in Y10 and Y11 have begun assisting our duty members of staff in the Hub during break times and dinner. This is reducing queues and helping to keep the Hub and orderly and purposeful environment during social times. Our student volunteers are putting their civic virtues into action and are being rewarded with break time snack items from the canteen.
Year 11
Thank you to all that have ordered leavers hoodies for your child. The order is being placed and hoodies should be with us middle of May to be given to students.

In addition, Mr Rollin will be holding an intervention for students who are learning, want to learn or just to practice guitar. These will be held on a Monday lunchtime.
Maths Department
Each week, our students at CRA, complete maths questions for their homework on Sparx. Some students answer additional questions, further increasing their mathematical knowledge. We do this as there are online resources to help and guide students if they are struggling with a question. You might like to ask them to show you what they typically do on a weekly basis.
This weeks Sparx Stars are
- Harry W - Year 11
- Ellie M-J Year 10
- Isla C - Year 7
Why We Do What We Do
At CRA we poverty proof our equipment list. Some schools will require you to bring in items such as whiteboards and whiteboard pens, highlighters and coloured pencils etc… At CRA we just list six items: 2 black pens, 1 pencil, a ruler, a rubber and a purple pen.
The importance of the two black pens!
This week we explain the importance of the two black pens.
When students come to sit their GCSE exams they will have to write in black pen.
The exam boards advise that students write in black ink or a black ballpoint pen because the scanners pick this up more effectively. If the colour of the writing or even the handwriting is at all
Table Talk
At CRA we have six core values: Ambition & Aspiration; Respect & Resilience; Confidence and Courage.
We encourage all staff to use the language of our values in every day interactions with our students.
Please take the time to pick one and discuss with your child what that means to them and to you. Perhaps give some examples from your experience of life of demonstrating one of these values and talk about how these values can make us better individuals.
Times Tables
At the end of all lessons students stand behind their chairs in silence to prepare for themselves for the next lesson. From September, on a weekly rota, Years 7 and 8 will be reciting their timetables to help embed them in their long term memory.
Week beginning - 5 May 25 - Times table is 11

Leave of absence request
A Principal can only authorise a leave of absence in exceptional circumstances. We will take into account the Government guidance when considering what the exceptional circumstances are- all applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. You may be able to take your child out of school in exceptional circumstances, providing an application is made in advance by the parent/carer, this request complies with Government guidance and the leave is deemed to be ‘exceptional’ by the Principal.
If you take a leave of absence without our permission or if your child fails to return by the agreed date if permission was granted, then this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and noted in your child’s record. You might also be issued with a fixed penalty notice for this absence. If your child has not returned within 10 days of the expected date of return then, after consultation with the Local Authority, we may take your child off our school roll.
As examples, the following reasons are not considered to be exceptional circumstances:
- availability of cheap holidays
- periods overlapping with beginning or end of term
- visits to family
- renewing passports
Requests for leave of absence will only be considered if made in writing. Please ensure you use the leave of absence request form to do this.

House News.
House Rounders
House Rounders took place at CRA this week across two days of competition. The opening day involved year 9 and Year 10 who produced some closely contested matches but it was Aqua who won both of their matches to secure victory. The following day saw Year 7 and Year 8 teams take to the field in another exciting round of matches, this time however it was Caeli who came out on top. Points from across each of the matches will be tallied up before the final results revealed in assembly next week.
Term 5 House Competitions
Students who wish to get involved in any of the upcoming competitions must speak to their tutor or head of house.
Table Tennis
The table tennis scholars have had a successful weekend at the English Schools National Championships representing CRA.
In the individual events Lincolnshire were only able to have 1 representative in each of the age groups, so Ella and Ryan qualified through the county rounds.
Ella, who came straight from representing England Senior Women in Manchester, managed to retain her U16 title.
Ryan, seeded 9th in the event had a brilliant run of results and reached the semi-finals, claiming a bronze medal in an age group that he still has 2 years left to play in.
The U16 boys' team, also retained their title winning all their games in the final. They beat Tudor Grange (Warwickshire) 7-1, London Academy (Edgeware) 7-1 and The Reading School 5-3.
A fantastic set of results for the players, CRA and DRET, please do congratulate them when you see them this week.
