A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

A key factor in the success of a school system is the support of the community it is a part of. Simply stated, do families show up? Truly, the strength of our school system is built on your support. Your willingness to partner, to volunteer, and most importantly, to believe in and care for our schools makes all the difference. That being said, THANK YOU for showing up!

Whether you are setting up gyms for glow parties, leading fundraisers, sharing your thoughts at strategic planning sessions, or packing the Salentine Gym for an incredible middle and high school band performance, you show up. And when you do, it matters not just to your student but to EVERY student. Your presence sends a powerful message: Our 1Warrior community sees you. We believe in you. We care about you. That is incredibly powerful.

This impact extends beyond our students. When you show up, whether it is celebrating a hard-earned achievement, offering encouragement in a challenging moment, or simply sharing a smile, know that you uplift our staff as well. Your support fuels the energy that drives our district forward.

So thank you. We are truly grateful for your partnership, your presence, and your unwavering support. Keep showing up; it is one of the key reasons our schools are among the best in the state!

Intra-district Transfer Requests

Thank you to those families who have made time to submit an intra-district transfer request for the 2025-26 school year. Should your family be interested in a new placement within our District, please complete the Intra-district Transfer Request Form. Realizing we are in the midst of staffing and scheduling decision-making for next school year already, the sooner you can submit your request, the better. Beginning early May 2025, we will be reaching out to families with decisions about each respective request. Should you have additional questions regarding this process, please email Robin Schrot, Assistant Superintendent for Continuous Improvement, at robin.schrot@muskegonorway.org.

Student Survey Results

Recently, we received our student school experience survey results. We administered both a 7- and 18-question survey and are grateful that 3,217 students in grades 2 through 12 completed the 18-question overall school experience survey. We had close to 15,000 responses to the 7-question survey where feedback goes directly to our 2nd through 12th-grade teaching staff. Providing our students an opportunity to share their experiences continues to be one of the most high-leverage practices with regards to our continuous improvement efforts.

The district’s 2024-25 overall mean on the 18-question school experience survey is a 4.10 on a 5-point scale.

A few notes regarding the district-level benchmark items:

The top two rated items were:

  • “I have at least one friend at my school.” (4.67)
  • “Learning is important at my school.” (4.39)

The lowest rated items were:

  • “I set learning goals and track my progress.” (3.64)
  • “Students treat me with respect at this school.” (3.69)

Each school will share with staff and parents their results (strengths and opportunities for growth) and develop an action plan that aims to provide an overall better student experience at each respective site.

Threats are Taken Seriously

Please remember that if you or your children see or hear something suspicious to immediately say something to an administrator, a School Resource Officer, or call the local police department. We are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for our students, and we are fortunate to have great partnerships with you, our parents/guardians, in our district. With threats occurring more often in school districts, it is important that we take a moment to lean on this partnership and ask you to have a conversation with your children regarding the serious implications of making a threat on a school. Such behavior may leave a lasting impact on a child’s education and future. The impact on the entire family is profound. Rather than waiting, we are asking you to personally discuss this issue with your children now. Whether a student perceives making a threat as a joke or not a big deal, making a threat on a school could result in suspension, expulsion, and/or being charged as an adult with a felony. According to State of WI statute 947.015: “Whoever intentionally conveys or causes to be conveyed any threat or false information, knowing such to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt being made or to be made to destroy any property by the means of explosives is guilty of a Class 1 felony.”

We continue to encourage our students and school community to report through Speak Up Speak Out (SUSO) anything that could constitute a threat to school safety. As always, we work closely with local law enforcement to assist in these situations. Thank you for taking a moment to have this discussion with your children.

School Safety

Please know that Muskego-Norway Schools have safety plans and practices in place to prepare our school community for a crisis. Safety efforts and practices include:

  • Three (3) Muskego Police Officers, serving as School Resource Officers in our buildings. We lead Waukesha County and all rural school districts in southeast Wisconsin when it comes to staffing police in our schools.
  • District and school-level Emergency Response Teams who meet regularly with the Muskego Police Department to research and implement the most up-to-date procedures in protecting our students and staff from dangers in a crisis, as well as disseminating to staff at all buildings our safety procedures and protocols to follow.
  • Safety plans are reviewed and approved annually by the Muskego-Norway School Board.
  • All external doors are locked during school hours, and we have supervised main entrances at all of our buildings.
  • Visitors need permission to enter school buildings using an official ID.
  • Annually, MNSD conducts all state mandatory drills, including two "lockdown" drills.
  • Background checks are required for volunteers and staff members to enter into our schools and work with students.
  • Students who leave the learning environment during school hours and return are required to check-in through the front office.

We know that schools are safer when students, staff, and families work together to reduce violence and address potential safety issues. We are asking that you continue to monitor your child’s and others’ online and social media activity and report any school safety concerns to law enforcement and school officials immediately. We are grateful for your partnership as we work together to keep our children safe.
