Curriculum Updates:

  • Math: We have moved on to our 3rd unit! This unit focuses on addition and subtraction within 1,000. We work on making a new ten/hundred and ungrouping tens/hundreds. We start our learning by understanding base ten blocks and expanded form. This helps the kids learn how they get new tens or hundreds. In subtraction, we will focus on how to ungroup tens or hundreds in order to successfully subtract. Helpful hint: When you're helping your students, we are working towards what we learned as carrying or borrowing. Even though we have switched to addition/subtraction, please don't stop practicing multiplication facts! Your students have links to ALL our count by songs in their Google Classroom.
  • Reading: Our fourth module is all about drama! This is one my favorite units! The kids will read several plays and learn about the elements of drama. Some skills we focus on this module include: visualizing, literary elements, figurative language, summarization, and theme. I hope your students love this module as much as I do!
  • Writing: This unit of writing is also one of my favorites! We are going parallel to our reading module, and the kids will be writing fictional narratives! They will use their imagination to write a complete story with a problem, solution, and theme! I can't wait to see their creativity shine!
  • Science: In science we are moving away from forces and interactions and into our unit on inheritance and variation of traits! We had fun learning about gravity and buoyancy with boats, Newton's Laws of Motion with ping pong balls, and push and pull forces with a read aloud and science video! This unit will move us into comparing/contrasting different animal life cycles, understanding and analyzing inherited traits, explore the idea that traits can be influenced by the environment, and research different adaptations to aid in survival. We will be very busy!
