Two CUras How two levels of care can shape Ignatian leadership

Two Curas is both a spiritual and practical look at how Cura Personalis and Cura Apostolica can collectively inform and shape how Ignatian leaders engage in the mission of Jesuit education.

Introduction

Cura Personalis and Cura Apostolica
Within the Ignatian way of proceeding are two levels of care that leaders are called to animate in their work.

Cura Personalis

Cura Personalis, often defined as care for the whole person, has its roots in the Society's first and primary work - to care for souls. We explore the historical roots of this so as to more clearly understand how it frames our work in Jesuit education.

Cura Apostolica

The second level of care, Cura Apostolica, often proves more elusive and unfamiliar to Ignatian educators and leaders. Defined as care for the work or care for the apostolate, this level of care proved challenging for Ignatius himself. We look at the transition he underwent from the individual care of souls to the role of Superior General and how he ultimately acclimated to it.

Program Framework

Structure

We follow the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm for the framework of the program, allotting equal time to experience, reflection and action. For each context of care, the ideal time allotment is 60 minutes, so the program in total should be allowed two hours.

TIME: Two 60-minute sections, each divided into three twenty-minute time blocks

Platform

Mentimeter screenshots

To best facilitate gathering and sharing group information, the program uses the interactive Mentimeter platform. Each participant will have an opportunity to share their own personal response to questions throughout the presentation then see how responses play out in the collective.

Following the program, the presentation results will be shared with the point person(s) for the program.

Cost

In Person: The program is best delivered in-person so as to facilitate the best levels of small group reflection and plenary discussion. Cost for communications, preparatory work and program facilitation is $1600 plus travel expenses.

Virtual: The program can be structured virtually, with presentation time being done via screensharing and small groups being placed into breakout rooms. Cost for communications, preparatory work and program facilitation is $750.

Documentation

All preparatory communications, accounting and program materials will be documented and shared with the point person(s) at the hosting school via Google Drive.
