- Also, in ceremonies last week at the Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) campus, TAMIU committed to an Articulated Transfer Agreement. The Agreement enhances the transfer of degree-seeking SWTJC students to TAMIU. More information is here.
- Students interested in becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor are invited to the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) Open House at 1 p.m. in Student Center, 236. - A Panel Discussion, “Sisters in Law Enforcement: Issues and Challenges,” will be hosted by TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences, department of Social Sciences, on Tuesday, March 26 from 3 – 6 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 126. This is the latest in a series of social sciences collaborative research presentations focused on law enforcement and community engagement. It's free of charge and open to the public. - Richard ‘Heatwave’ Berler, longtime chief meteorologist at KGNS-TV, has been Laredo’s official Cooperative Observer Program (COOP) observer for the National Weather Service (NWS) for over 38 years. His service to Laredo will be recognized with a new meteorological station dedicated Tuesday, March 26 at 11:30 a.m. at TAMIU. The new COOP site on our campus will continue to collect important weather data. Find out more, visit here.
- If you want to learn more about severe weather, attend an upcoming SKYWARN® Storm Spotter Training event happening Tuesday, March 26, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Student Center, room 236. The training, offered through the National Weather Service (NWS), is free and open to all. This is the second year the training is hosted at TAMIU. Saturday's TAMIU 'Big Event' Celebrated 15th Year with Dual Volunteer Efforts in West, South Laredo
Our 15th annual The Big Event saw 500+ student, faculty, staff and alumni volunteers roll up their sleeves for a neighborhood empowerment project in the Canta Ranas and Los Obispos neighborhoods in West and South Laredo.
Organized through TAMIU’s Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, the event includes the collaborative efforts of the University’s Student Government Association Leaders Organizing Volunteer Events (L.O.V.E.) Committee, the City of Laredo Solid Waste Department through its Environmental Services, Keep Laredo Beautiful, the American Red Cross, and ARCA Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.
TAMIU, National Weather Service Honor 'Heatwave' Berler's Service; Launch New COOP Station on Campus
TAMIU and the National Weather Service (NWS) will honor KGNS-TV chief meteorologist Richard ‘Heatwave’ Berler with the dedication of a new meteorological station located on campus. Berler has served as Laredo’s Cooperative Observer Program observer for the past 38 years – his climatological observations have been crucial in helping define Laredo’s climate and support forecast, including warning programs for the NWS. The new COOP station on campus will focus on collecting essential weather data.
TAMIU Inks New Transfer Agreement with Southwest Texas Junior College
With the signature strokes of multiple pens, a new agreement between TAMIU and Southwest Texas Junior College has forged a new educational partnership between the two institutions. In ceremonies in Eagle Pass at the SWTJC campus, TAMIU has committed to a shared path benefiting students and their higher education goals via an Articulated Transfer Agreement.
Human Library Returns to TAMIU Tuesday March 26
Now in its 3rd year, The Human Library returns to TAMIU Tuesday, March 26! The interactive event focuses on holding personal conversations that challenge stigmas and stereotypes. The event is free and open to the public.
NWS Skywarn Training this Tuesday, March 26
Join the national network of 400,000+ trained severe weather spotters as the first line of defense against severe weather. The SKYWARN® presentation covers severe thunderstorm characteristics, cloud formations, identifying the different threats associated with severe storms, how to report, and basic weather safety. The training is free and open to both the University and general community.
TAMIU @ LC Open House Scheduled Wed., March 27
For the second year in a row, TAMIU Open House at LC, an opportunity for Laredo College students to explore their transfer opportunities at TAMIU, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. outside the LC Kazen Center.
All Majors Career Fair Happening Wednesday, March 27
Join us Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 1 – 4 p.m. for our 2024 Spring All Majors Career Fair at the Student Center Ballroom to network and connect with organizations for full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities with companies from Laredo and beyond.
TAMIU MACP Open House and V-A-R Panel
A Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Open House event is happening in Student Center room 236 this Monday, March 25. Doors open at 1 p.m. Additionally, V-A-R sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, March 27. These info sessions offered to both students, faculty and staff focus on active listening, validating and refering individuals struggling with mental health.
Rhizome @ TAMIU
“Rhizome” is a multidisciplinary contemporary art project organized by Artist and Visiting Assistant Professor Crystal Wagner that will be created at TAMIU this Spring 2024. It involves the collaboration between faculty and students in the music, art, dance, theater, and humanities and the community at large.
First Year Writing Program Showcase Scheduled for Friday, April 5
The TAMIU First Year Writing Program Showcase of Writing will exhibit the scholarly contributions of participating students through poster presentations. Participating students are eligible for scholarships and Dusty Dollars funded by the First Year Writing Program Presidential Innovation Grant. The First Year Writing Program Showcase of Writing celebrates writing by first-year students enrolled in ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302.
Discover TAMIU Set for Saturday, April 6
Now in its 10th year, “Discover TAMIU,” a free, family-friendly event celebrating the excitement and discovery made possible at the University, is happening Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
