William Floyd Board of Education Meeting Recap 4/16/24

The April 16 regular meeting of the Board of Education kicked off with wonderful performances from the William Floyd Middle School Jazz Band, under the direction of Dawn Conefry, and William Floyd Middle School Select Choir, under the direction of Debbie Tomko! Below are videos of their performance. Enjoy!

Also, the Jeananne Dawson Memorial Library entrance was decorated with beautiful artwork made by William Floyd Middle School students. School art teachers Tim Kosta and Stephanie Taisler were delighted to show off their students' great work!
William Floyd Middle School principal Camelle Person and assistant principal Sonia Montalvo gave a building report for the Board of Education which included the school's English as a New Language (ENL) program. The presentation included three ENL students, Juan Arrendondo Galeano, Nicole Acevedo and Maiquel De La Cruz Santos, sharing their success stories and how the ENL program has made them more comfortable communicating in English!
The evening concluded with honoring all three of William Floyd's Special Education Department leaders, Dr. Malasia Walker, Michele Manion and Ravi Seeram, who were selected as this year’s SCOPE Education Services “shining stars” for their exemplary service to the district and community at SCOPE’s 23rd annual awards dinner. These three “shining stars” have done an outstanding job ensuring that William Floyd's special education students and families receive the attention they deserve and helping students on the path to success after graduation. This award is also a testament to the strength of the entire Special Education Department.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 14 starting with the Annual Budget Hearing at 6:30 pm in William Floyd High School's Jeananne Dawson Memorial Library. The regular meeting of the Board of Education will start at 7 pm. We hope to see you there!
