Loving Reading Nursery, summer term, week 6

Our story this week has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have taken part in a range of activities that explore this book in more detail.

Counting the fruit and sticking it down to retell the story.
Adding numbers to say how much fruit was eaten each day by the Caterpillar.
Describing what we can see.
Printing patterns to make giant caterpillars. This was lots of fun with the potato masher.
We had some creative caterpillars.

In nursery we have a story every day in the afternoon. We are lucky to have parent volunteers come in to read a story to the class or small groups. If you would like to read a story we would fully support you. Please let us know.

Our phonics learning is so exciting for the children. Lots of the children are choosing to practise writing during their play. This is something you can do at home too. We will continue to send flashcards and sheets home to help you teach your child, if you need anything extra please just ask.

This week was out last visit to the library. To help the children develop a love of books we have had a series of visits to Kittiwake Multicultural Library in Gateshead. The children have really loved this. They are open to families visiting over the holidays if you would like to go. https://www.multilinguallibrary.org.uk

Our maths focus this week has been to revise writing numbers to 5 and to be able to use the language 'one more than..' and 'one less than...' when ordering numbers on a number line.

Placing the numbers by thinking 'What is one more than two/three/four?'
Success!
Placing one more than one.

Thanks for reading and thank you for supporting us with the curriculum at home. Even sharing these photos here with your child can help them to remember what they have learnt this week in school and deepen their learning.
