Be a Cardinal for a Day Saturday | 10.25.25

A perfect event for seventh- or eighth-grade middle school band students! Experience what it’s like to be part of the Cardinal Marching Band! Attend our rehearsal, meet other band students, then ride the bus to Stellos Stadium and attend the football game. Bring your instrument and join the band as we play in the stands! Students will have the opportunity to watch as the Cardinal Marching Band (CMB) performs their 2025 field show during halftime.

The Cardinal Marching Band is looking for seventh- and eighth-grade students who play one or more of the following instruments:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Euphonium
  • Tuba
  • Snare Drum
  • Bass Drum
  • Cymbals

Flip folders with the band’s stand tunes will be made available in advance of the game for participants who wish to prepare ahead of time.

For more than 30 years, the Cardinal Marching Band has proudly represented the school, performing live for spectators at home varsity football games, local parades — including Nashua’s Veterans and Memorial Day Parades — as well as on nation television. They also are invited annually to participate in South Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The CMB coexists with the BG Concert Band, an ensemble which performs at least four times annually for the school community. The group plays at various community events and also travels to major cities across the country every other year. Destinations have included New York, New Orleans, Seattle, Montreal, and San Antonio.

Music

From the beautiful vocal nuances of the Honors Chorus to the soulful sounds of the Jazz Ensemble, music thrives at Bishop Guertin. With six large performing groups, including a string orchestra, and even more small ensembles, music from a variety of genres and styles constantly floats throughout the campus. As a whole, the department combines to offer over 40 performances, both formal and informal, throughout each school year. In addition to performances with BG ensembles, our musicians have participated in the Clark Terry/UNH Jazz Festival and the UMass Amherst Honor Bands as well as the NHMEA All-State Festival, Jazz All-State Festival, Solo and Ensemble Festival, and Large Group Festival. Students have also performed with the NAfME All-National Ensembles.

For the non-performer, BG offers various elective classes, including the basics of music theory, the history of popular music and music technology.

Known, Valued, and Treasured

As an independent, Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school, Bishop Guertin seeks to serve the young people entrusted to its care. Inspired by and building upon the educational tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, Bishop Guertin develops students to their greatest potential, especially in their contribution toward the world around them and in their faith in a loving God.

We are a community that cares deeply about each other, where every individual is known, valued, and treasured. And together, we reach out to others through service projects that help us learn what it means to be a moral and spiritual person.

Since 1963, more than 10,000 students have walked the halls and have been the heartbeat of our school. We celebrate our individuality, and we also cherish our collective mission to learn, teach, share, work, give, and grow.
